You can, but the -A is much better because of the energy slot in the CT. TAG is king, and running a LRM boat without TAG is simply... not a good idea.

*edit*
To clarify, I'm not saying running a LRM mech with no TAG makes you stupid or dumb, I'm just saying that the -A version has room for a TAG, which is of great help to any LRM mech, meaning the -AH version is probably a bit better suited for something else than LRMs.

And yet I see Stormcrows mounting nothing but LRMs all the time... Interesting either way, and since I am not likely to change my close ranged habits any time soon, not particularly despair-inducing. Thank you for your feedback.

Anybody make an LRM-boat for this yet? It looks like it'd be able to, but I don't really LRM much to know for sure.

The one with the AC5 actually didn't look that bad in my head. I had moderate success using an AC5 on my free Thunderbolt on one build, and it doesn't make me nearly so nervous as using only MGs as a backup weapon.

2x UAC5 and some LRM could be good

Gonna try the much despised Centurion LRM spam build later methinks:

Filing that the Crit seeker build works alright in some of my mechs so why not this one. Quick too:

I lean towards this but with ASRM18 and only a ton of MG ammo.

Not run it yet, but this is what is in my garage:

The crit-seeker and AC20 things I just can't seem to get right on paper for my tastes.

Ammo location excepted, that's my plan exactly.

Pretty sure it's inferior to the A though. :/

May need a bit of ammo tweaking but I've only run out of it before I ran out of mech once so far.

Death circle slowpokes like a boss and never stop firing those MG's,

Yep. Cool paint, but this seems like another sub-par variant.

Mini-DDC brawler but it goes a bit slow. At least you have 24-25 shots of everything.

CN9-AH

AC20 3.5 tons ammo and 3 SRM4 with 3 tons of ammo. 225XL though and shaved off some leg armor.

i'd never split ac/20 ammo, only if the half ton is really a spare, because you loose one shot, but with half srm ammo you don't loose one rocket and 2.5 tons for 3xsrm4 should be sufficient in most matches. so i'd replace one srm ammo with a half, and do the opposite for the ac/20 ammo

edit: just saw you stripped of a half ton armor from the legs, bad idea especially for cents, actually for all meds and lower. drop the half ton ammo and regain full health on your feet to have a longer prosperus life on two feet ^^

This is what i'm going to use with mine. Seems to be opposite of what everyone else is doing.

CN9-AH-Gauss

I am considering something similar, using srms instead of lrms.

Currently I'm trying out the viability of two builds; the "Pepper Shaker" and the "Hailstorm". So far I'm leaning towards the former.

Or, if you want, you can always put together a Suboptimal Zombie. Wonder if a UAC shouldn't be the centerpiece of this one though...

How bad of an idea is it to shove an XL engine into a CN9-AH?

I probably wouldn't do it in the other variants, since you have the CT lasers to zombie with, but with all the hardpoints being in an arm or side torso for the -AH, I might consider it - if the hitboxes aren't that horrible?

Not a bad one at all. You're screwed if you run out of ammo either way, so keep it on the front foot and use it as an aggressive flanker instead. The chassis can be surprisingly good for this if you just have the speed to interpose that shield arm. This is how I've played my YLW since forever, since I immediately realized I could cram in two UAC/5s in that right arm and go to town. And now with the model update, it just looks sexier than ever...

Though, of course, I can't wait until Piranha realize they have to get over the whole "timeline parity" thing and send some love in the direction of the IS. Talking RACs, Plasma Rifles, MASC and Mechanical Jump Boosters and whatnot here. Once the real equipment starts hitting the game, you can count on the Centurion becoming that much more relevant again...
