It runs hot because it's got 15 DPS from the SRM6s alone! That's more than your average King Crab! And let me tell you - Artemis makes all the missiles hit the Crab's CT. The only downside is that you absolutely need 4 tonnes of SRM ammo.

I decided to drop 1ML from my old build in favor of more SRM ammo. Mostly use just the SRMs with an occasional laser alpha to open/finish my targeted component. Then in the late game you've still got 4 quirked out meds to fire.

Its the best.
Grid Iron A little slow but it takes full advantage of the quirks. Could use an extra ton of ammo with the ROF increase but 30 rounds is nothing to scoff at.
Grid Iron This is actually what I was running prior to the phase 2 quirks. The extra speed and ammo are both especially nice. The Mlas also fire slightly faster and further.

I might misunderstand cooldown reduction, but isn't it 10.1265 DPS from the SRM6's?
40% (from quirks) + 12% (from weapon cooldown module) + 5% (from Fast Fire) = 57% faster cooldown.
1 / 1.57 = 0.6369...
Normal SRM6 cooldown = 4 seconds.
New cooldown: 4 * 0.6369... = 2.54777.... seconds
2xSRM6 = 12 missiles * 2.15 damage/missile = 25.8 damage per salvo every 2.54777 seconds.
DPS : 25.8 damage / 2.54777... seconds = 10.1265 DPS
... Right?

Wrong ;-)
A 50% reduction would mean the cooldown is halved (4->2 seconds)
57% faster cooldown means that the cooldown is actually 4*0.43 = 1.72 seconds.
(12 missiles * 2.15)/1.72 = 15 DPS
Better bring 4 tonnes of missiles, though.

I tested in Testing Grounds, and you are correct.
I emptied my bays in less than 30 seconds, which confirms your math.

you are all spoiled by Blizzard's and Sony's twist of setting half the orginal cooldown as 100% target...
Kmieciu got it right.

Am I the only one who likes the system PGI chose much more? It just seems more logical.
Yeah, this way is easier to calculate, but on the other hand, it leads to exponentially-increasing returns, rather than diminishing returns, which makes it dangerous.
A 20% reduction when you have 0% reduction so far really is a 25% increase in DPS. But when you already have 50% reduction, a further 20% reduction becomes a 66% increase in DPS. And so on and so forth.

Didja know it stands for "Shaun Phillips"? *
*Won't find it on Sarna, have to dredge up a copy of the original TRO 3025.
EDIT: Make that "Shawn"... had to dredge up my own copy

So if you made it though all that blabber my question is, will the gridiron be a good choice? If so can you reccomend a good up to date build for it?
Side note: I watched a few video's where the mech(not a grid iron) was using dual ac/5's and that looked like alot of fun. So if the grid iron could utilize those efficiently that would be great.
Oh and i wish i would have found this game sooner because it rocks!!
Hoghead out.

Grid iron is amazing. You'll probably want a standard engine, gauss, and use a couple MPL. The engine can be a bit smaller than 250 (225-235 seems to be a good range), since you're basically hanging out in the back (often with bigger mechs), sniping with your 50% cooldown gauss rifle.

Whoops, one of those heatsinks was supposed to be in the engine.
I run a similiar build but with an XL engine and 3 LPL's in the hunch and a MD in the head. It's a little less hot and i consistently put up 500+ damage games with it I love it. as with any medium you just gotta know when to GTFO lol
