So with the new quirks, we're going to have to throw around some stuff in order to deal with the changes to our once favorite chassis in order to come up with the most optimal builds. Mine just happens to be the Firebrand, because reasons. I mean, a Jagermech's point layout and model that can be built to resemble the Rifleman, and which nets you +30% creds at the end of the battle; what more can you ask for?

Well, I used to roll with 2x UAC/5 and 6x ML strapped to a 300XL. But I also love the PPC. And then the quirks happened, and then this build just flashed into my head:

INSANITY

And I have to say I'm hooked. Between this and a Jester rocking 4xLLs, I just can't seem to be stopped with anything but a new and enhanced AC20 alpha from something really nasty and unexpected. Still, I've also got a Fang which hasn't even strolled out of the garage in quite a while, and which I still can't seem to figure just what to do with...

I was fearing that the Hero mechs wouldn't receive any quirks, but I was very positively surprised, and now I just can't get enough. My fear is of course that the quirks will turn all builds somewhat formulaic, but let's see if we can't deal with that.

So, share your builds for the heavy Hero mechs of the game, and let's see how much variety we end up achieving, shall we?

3 tons of ammo per AC2 IMO not 2. I'm guessing however the PPC is going to be the primary weapon so I guess that's okay. Personally I would lose the medium lasers and just shove in two extra tons of AC2 ammo.

My favourite hero is the Heavy Metal.

Before the patch I was running it with 3LL, 2AC5, JJ and XL325.

The quirks it was given in yesterdays patch suit it rather well :D. I've recently unlocked the AC5 level 5 cooldown module as well. It's almost rude not to get one attached to it.

HGN-HM - Heavy Metal
 Additional Structure (LL&RL) +10
 AC/5 Cooldown +7.5%
 Ballistic Weapon Cooldown +7.5%
 Laser Duration -10%

*Edit.. whoops.. clicked this post from the main forum.. didn't realise it was in the "Heavy Mechs" section. Feel free to ignore and deride.

I find that it's quite sufficient in most battles. The the AC/2s work best as a backup for when you get stuck having to wander around an Assault at close range or faced with a Medium who tries to brawl with you, thinking he's got that much mobility on you (and thinking wrong, for the most part). Generally though, the build works best if you play peek-a-boo at somewhere around 300-500m over a ridge or between some houses, giving your PPCs the room they need, and there's only so much your AC/2s can add to that equation in the minimal time you should take with your face out of cover.

Also, additional ammo would be impossible to cram on without messing with that gorgeous abundance of armor (for a Jager) which I managed to cram on with 0 slots to spare. I find that a very fortunate "coincidence"...

Why AC2's? I'm running 2 PPC 2 AC 5 on the Firebrand. AC 2's seems to be the most worthless gun around when it comes t tonnage/facetime/actual damage done.

Yeah, AC/2s aren't the greatest, and they produce a lot of heat in an already sweaty build. But you did read what I said about there being 0 slots to spare in the build? You wanna throw on some AC/5s, it sure looks prettier, but you'll have to go standard armor and lighter engine. The AC/2s and MLs aren't even there for dealing much damage; they're just there to provide cockpit shake and cover your ass when Lights decide to get frisky with you and think they can outmaneuver you by closing in, or when you're circling Assaults inside their reach so they can't alpha derp you to death. That's where the 300XL and the two extra weapon pairs come in; they're there to back the PPCs up and compensate for your weak spots, but the particle blasters are definitely the main thing.
