Hero/champion Mech Question

I was just wondering...What is the difference between a Hero and a Champion Mech? (not counting the special set up for each chassis) Does one grant you 30% and the other a 40% bonus or some such?
How do you guys determine which chassis is eligible to be a H or C, or will there be a H or C for every chassis type eventually?
Just wondering....
Thanks All

Hero 'Mechs are completely new variants of a chassis with different hardpoints and a special camo. They give you 30% C-Bill bonus.
The developers choose which champion 'Mechs they introduce, but eventually there'll be at least a Champion+Hero 'Mech for each chassis.
If you ask me, and if you don't want to spend too much, go with a Hero 'Mech instead. If you play this game regularly you'll soon have more XP/GXP than you'll know what to do with anyway. C-Bills on the other hand are never enough. It's the primary thing to grind for.

Champions can be reskinned with other camo patterns.
Hero mechs are locked to their unique pattern. (Though if you want to be sly you can paint them basic green and most of the time people can't tell the difference by just looking at you; good way to hide in the crowd).

Which begs the question: why are the CN9-AH and the AS7-S labelled as Champions instead of Heroes, since they give a C-bills bonus, not an Xp one, have special camos and hardpoints?

They are unique with skins and bonuses.
But not unique in hardpoints.
Much like Founder mechs, Phoenix, Invasion, Clan Wave II and Resistance... there will be standard cbill versions.
When the Founder package first started, there was no Hunchback 4G, no Atlas D, no honestly not sure if there was a Catapult C1.
I do know there was a Jenner D, but meh.
Then sometime later, everyone could get a 4G, Atlas D, C1, etc.

Technically it seems we need a new category since those mechs are different from the Champion mechs

Champions may not nessicaraly be the optimum build for the chassis (especialy after the quirk pass) but they come pre-upgraded, usualy having Endo Steel and Double Heat Sinks, and oftern an XL engine too.
The Light Champions especialy are great value with the XL255 in the Spider, 295 in the Firestarter and XL 300 in the Jenner (those engines work well for a large variaty of mechs). also you can buy and sell those mechs (as well as the Cicada Chammpion) with a better Cbill/MC exchange rate than the Cbill for MC packs, especialy if they are on sale (at 30-50% off)

They are the most worth having over champion mechs for economic reasons but don't believe they are all singing and dancing some can be rather naff depending on your view point and play style so look into them carefully before spending hard earned on them. An example of this is the Awesome hero the Pretty baby. It's very much a Niche mech and takes quite a bit of skill and experience to use one effectively. Wheras some can just jump in one and mess the enemy up good time (not saying that's me BTW). Although this mech among others has recently seen some unique improvements in the form of Quirks.

That's not true. Hero 'Mechs only give an extra 30% C-bills. You may be thinking of Premium Time - which gives you a 50% increase to both C-bills and GXP every match.
Edit: Ninja'd! Well played, Terciel

**edit** yep it is just c-bills, well you learn something new everyday and all that. Still seems odd why my heros seem to farm xp better.

They never gave a boost to XP in Beta, either. Maybe you just perform better in them because you play them more often?

Well thanks for pointing that out i can sleep soundly tonight lol.
Odly not i think my standard mechs get more attention. Although my mastered firebrand is pretty devilish so that may explain it.

Ok, got it! And I agree, they should fall in a different category, since they are definitely not like Champions.

just liked the above post, but this is 4 years out of date. (Guess someone searched it?) You can now change away from the hero mech patterns (and restore them by choosing the "default skin". Just wanted to make sure that was out there.

The way to make a Hero Mech really shine is purchase the Mastery Bundle, it includes a Hero, a Champion, and a regular mech+ 30 days of premium time. Using only Hero Mechs with Premium Time gives an 80% C-Bill boost.
