The game play? Not so fun. Lots of players looking to scratch paint and not kill mechs.

What i don't understand is that kills get rewarded less than assists. Why is it so? It is vital to take out the enemy as quick as possible, so he can't shoot back anymore. Spreading damage everywhere without destroying a mech is of less value to the team then the killing blow. I know the killing blow is sometimes pure luck, but very often the one who aimed for the weak component got the kill, not the one you can't keep his lasers on target. This is skill. Kill stealing happens. Of course it does. But that doesn't mean that killing someone is less skillful than getting assists.
Below is one of my best matches in a light i've ever had (yeah go ahead and bash me for not hitting > 1k regularly) and one pretty average win result. Now look at the score...
| Game Id | Mech | Kills | Damage done | Assists | Team Damage | Score | Qualified | Time |

At least in the group queue, most players still play to win, and not play to assist...

Hmmmmm...
There must be some middle ground on where good play might lie, but I just...can't...seem...to place a finger on it...
I think what you are looking for is... hmmm... highest ping gets highest score? ... no ... there's gotta be ... something ... I give up. Let me know if you come up with something good! Longest faction name maybe... no...

The middle ground must be... sitting down with your opponent and drafting a 10 step peace plan and then doing your thing (Depending on which faction you are playing you have to either stab your opponent from behind, stab your own teamleader from behind or go and rescue a cat from a tree)

This encourages damage, assists and getting kills, but the penalty for team damage is sufficient that shooting a teammate in the back to get an assist is not worth it.
Almost total agreement from me, except I would want to put kills = assists at 15 points. Neither incentivize kill whoring nor avoiding kill shots so that play simplifies.
Spotting assists I would give 1 point for each, same with TAG/Narc assists. Makes them about equal to damage, not outrageously easy to farm.

I got an extra Radar Dep module out of it, cant say it was worth the grinding

They really should build role warfare into the contests. Give lights and mediums bonus points for scouting and spotting assists, and give heavies and assaults brawling and solo kill bonuses. At least reward good gameplay instead of pointless assist farming.

Eventually, PGI will figure out or discover a decent scoring model. Until then, it's whatever.
I kind of feel the same way. Sure I thought the scoring formula was totally borked mostly due to kills being rewarded half as many points as assists (should have been equal in my opinion) however I just focused on finishing mastering my Ice Ferrets and managed to gain an extra 2.4 million in the process. That is kind of how you needed to look at the event. I mean even if you only earned a few hundred thousand, that is a few hundred thousand more than you started with and you really had to do nothing but play like you would normally (unless you wanted to game the system for max rewards) to get it.

Played Friday night a few hours and couple more Saturday night. Less than normal but qualified for a nice bit of cbills and whatnot which was all I was looking for out of this one.
Liked the idea and rewards of this event. Hopefully in the future they will rethink the scoring to be more balanced. Scoring kill/ assist evenly or even better.. go to a match score based system.

It rewards poor play, and LRM boating so you get your assists...
a few of the recent events were done well... then we fall back into this garbage...
Look dude, this weekend i played my mastered HBK-P as well as my mastered VND-AA. Then i decided to buy and try the Wolverines. So only mediums were used, and only PPCs, Med-Lasers, AC5 and Pulse Lasers.
Valid Wins: 57
5,700,000 C-Bills
Took me about 70 games. Not sure what you mean.
I am however, a bit shocked at the amount of total money made. On the first glance it looks a lot!
19,913,600,000
On the second however...not sure if 5000 players registered with an average of 40 winnings, or if there were a lot more and i just had a lot of time at hand. ^^

The military doesn't compensate people based on the formula that this game does. The military tries to keep its side alive while denying that privilege to the other side. It does NOT say, "Wound that guy and let someone else finish him for $$$."

They only compensate the ones that come back alive. In a game like this more guns on an enemy the shorter the TTK. If you are worrying about your bank account in the middle of a fire fight, 'You might be a greedy Merc!'

I also thought that this event was great. Having only found out about it on Sunday, I thought I was going to be at a huge disadvantage, but I was able to easily get 10 qualifying matches in. The extra Cbills is a great prize, and that Hula Girl isn't too shabby either.
It baffles me that people are complaining about this challenge. Honestly, people just need to stop worrying about what other people are doing in-game and just focus on playing the game for themselves.
Joseph Mallan, on 17 November 2014 - 07:13 AM, said:
Exactly. Just focus on the battle and get the job done. If you perform well and pull your weight, you're bound to qualify for the extra prizes.
I think that Greed is a problem for a large portion of the player base.

The worst was when half my team would die in the first 3 minutes of the match....so frustrating.
