I noticed it quite a bit, often in chat. People asking for a kill, giving a kill, or legging and leaving.

Granted, I also saw people purposefully overheating and/or running out of bounds to deny people a point.

I got at least half of my points in my Mist Lynx... :P

Mist Lynx were my favorite target this challenge. Send one splashing alpha their way and 1.5 arms pop off... ignore for the rest of the match and let a needy teammate get the easy kill.

Felt so bad for folks trying to level them the last 3 days.

My group was doing it on Saturday night as we started finishing up the challenge.

Oddly enough it was also very profitable. Lots of damage done, lots of "brawling" and "flanking" and "hit and run" awards, lots of assists.

Got 4 of my points in a 4 x LRM-5 Adder. :)

After I got my 20 I went back to leveling my ML's. for whatever reason, I was doing AMAZING in them. (relatively). My first win (2nd match) was 430 dmg/3kill/6assist. Almsot 300k CB (with premium & hero) and 5600 XP. (FWotD).

Other matches after that were at least 100 points higher than I was getting last week. Not sure if I was playing better, against weaker competition, or what. But it was a ton of fun

** I was also the point bait a few times, died horribly once with 0 points, got stuck on a tree on big..

I saw lots of cooperation and sharing...and had no problem getting my kill and assists for most matches.

However, for whatever reason, getting the win in addition to those criteria in the solo queue was frustratingly harder than usual for some reason — which disqualified the majority of my matches.

My experience is a lot like the OP, yes. I had a few matches where I'd secured my own kill and didn't go for any more kills, just crippling, as long as I felt my team could afford it. On the other hand, while I didn't like doing it, on some matches I did go for brutally murdering everyone I could because the team either wasn't being all that effective at doing the job or, most importantly, I'd taken too much damage and, when it comes down to it, I don't want to die because I tried being nice to other players. Which is why I have a 5 kill match... I'd gotten like 2 or 3 and I was actively trying to cripple the remaining 5 or so enemy mechs instead of killing.... when I realised the guy dueling the enemy stormcrow (packing an LB20 and several ERMeds) wasn't being terribly effective at doing so and all that was keeping my torso cored ass alive was the tunnel vision of the Stormcrow. Yeah, the moment I realised the danger I was in I just IMMAFIRINALLMYLAZORS at the crow's CT, all 48 points of MedPulseLazors. Then went off to deal with the remaining enemy assaults and took one more kill out of the 2-3.

So, if you saw somebody taking multiple kills, don't judge them too harshly. Especially if they were in a rather badly damaged mech by then.

Nothing sucks more than dying because you were trying to be nice to the rest of your team and the team let you down. :/

I know i did this myself but i still saw a lot of people with 3 or 4 or 5 kills. 1 or 2 kills ya thats fine but anything about 3 when your steamrolling the other side is just greed.

A lot of people are talking about the bad behaviour during this weekend challenge.

Was I the only one who saw a lot of improved behaviour? Friendly fire and TK's happen every day of the year, but this challenge was the first time I ever saw people getting their 1 kill and 1 assist, then assessing whether they were winning or losing. If they were winning, they would let others get their kills.

I saw lots of people just announcing in team chat. "I got my kill. Gonna let you guys take the others". People legging and disarming mechs and then leaving them for the team. You almost never see anyone ignore a disarmed mech in the solo queue, but I saw plenty of people holding fire when they'd stripped their target of armour and prepared the kill.

To all the gentlemen (and ladies) out there, who were saving kills for their teammates in the solo queue:

Saw/did it a lot in Conquest, which seemed the best for the tourney.

Get ahead in points, then worry about the kills.

Went 4 hours in group queue, only getting a single point, dropped to solo queue and got 5 within an hour.

I only saw this in our group where we made sure we were spreading the wealth.

Other than that, the people we usually picked up to fill out our 8 to 10 man were KSing lights. We had a pair of ERLL ravens picking off wounded mechs, the pair wound up with 7 kills and less than 300 damage. We had them again next match with us and we asked them to share kills, they said "lol no **** you 10 mans" and after they got their first kill I noticed them trying to KS, so I legged them and blew off their laser arm with my Wubshee so they couldn't steal anymore.

I saw lots of lights kitted out for the express purpose of gaming the tournament by stealing kills then running off to power down as well as light lances out clearly to steal as many kills possible.

Honestly, the behavior I saw from this tourney was by far the most appalling behavior yet.

I can't speak for anyone else, I was personally trying to avoid kill shots in cases where I knew that I had scored my point for the match, and intentionally left non-threatening enemies for my teammates on more the one occasion. IE, "there's a legged a kit-fox in B3 if anyone needs the point"

I saw it a few times, but me or someone else usually had to say "if you already have your kill, please don't take the last kills... aim for the legs" or something like that...

If no one said anything though, I watched a ton of matches where a guy with 2 or more kills chased down the last mech and take the kill shot. I would start to type something but usually it was too late...

70+ matches for me to get 20 points and some of the most brutal drops I've ever played. Most players seemed to be bringing their 'A' game and the matches I saw where the players co-operated and shared kills made the overall experience great for me.

I'm seeing a lot of 75 matches or less required to complete the challenge.

Despite the terrible game play many of us saw... that - based solely on the numbers - isn't as harsh/long as some previous challenges.

It only took me 60-ish games, but i admit it felt like FAR MORE than that. Before i counted them up i would have sworn i'd dropped more than 100. The PUG matches were just that frustrating.

Once I had mine I started helping out. I would go for legs, arms what I could. Most people appreciated it. Actually had a couple who complained just kill faster so they could move onto other matches >.>

To be fair it reached a point where I was burning out so I took a break. Gave up alot of the premium time such is life. Tis only a game.

Did most of mine in a Misery brawler, left a few matches with 4 kills as once I was within 300 meters, running away wasn't an option.
If the team was looking comfortable I would back off, otherwise I would secure the win and survive at all costs.
Had to drop the unit cue, as I found I couldn't function the way the tournament wanted me to (and score a point) with the unit mentality.
Overall, I saw more communication than normal, in most cases.

Yep. My aim only was ever to get one kill. After that I started to leg mechs, delimb them, etc for easier killing for someone else - purposefully aiming in places that wouldn't kill them.
Unless it was out of self defence to keep myself/someone else alive, or to win the match, I didn't kill any others.

I know I've announced it a few times that I got my kill, even asked who else needed on, and I admit I would get in the way of others line of fire intentionally to keep it open for that person or distract mechs with my spider and get the enemies rear facing my team for quicker killing. It worked a couple times so that was good enough for me.

I think I could have gone the extra mile and followed players around with low %'s to keep them from getting singled out by the enemy team and ripped apart. I saw 2 or 3 mechs firing at one team mate, and the moment I arrived and provided fire support it was amazing to see all those mechs recede back into cover and my team mate got a chance to regroup.
Next time I'll try and do more of that.

I know some of those things people could argue are a detrement to the team, but I would only do that when it was a game that obviously is going to turn out to be a stomp, there's no reason people can't share kills to lock in more points for people.

Never feel bad for someone who chooses to pilot a Mist Lynx! They dug their own grave. ;)

Besides, it wasn't that bad. Had a little more than a 33% success rate at getting a challenge point with them this weekend. :P

If you're trying to save a life, it's not kill stealing. If your teammate is at 90% and the target is at 30%, you're probably not worried about saving lives. It's not necessarily kill stealing, but it's certainly not altruism either.

I had several victories with multiple kills, because that was the only way to ensure victory. But if it's not necessary, just go hunting for limbs :)

Playing a light mech, I did have episodes where I spent minutes duelling with a bigger, isolated mech. Just as I prepare to deliver the killing blow, a friendly mech appears out of nowhere, parks himself directly in front of me (i.e. literally slows his mech down to stop in front of me) and takes the kill.

But I'm happy to say, most people behaved better during this challenge than what is normally the case.

Our run on Crimson Strait conquest was one of the fun matches i had. :)

I saw a handful of battles where the team asks "Anyone need a kill for the challenge?"

One battle someone said in team chat "After you get your kill/assist don't go hiding somewhere!" 'cause I guess there were some players doing that? Getting a kill, scratching another enemy for an assist then running off somewhere and shutting down?

A lot of times I'll get my kill then try to dismember the rest of the opposition but end up getting more kills 'cause of ammo explosions or some Heavy/Assault 'mech had an XL engine equipped.

I tried to be a nice guy in this challenge and I think that's ultimately why I failed to complete it.

16 points, 56 matches played, total investment of almost 10 hours.

I think because ordinarily I tend to help carry teams by taking kills in my light mechs, creating diversions for the enemy team and generally going for the weakest target on the radar to eliminate it as fast as possible, this challenge changed my style to "Get a kill then run around and hide behind my team mates because I'm fragile while trying to be a nice guy and not shoot anything that's almost dead." As a result, less enemy mechs died and my W/L ratio plummeted.

I witnessed a lot of suicides, though. Team is losing and suddenly 1-2 people kill themselves by overheat or out of bounds. That I don't understand... it's just plain inconsiderate. Whenever I was the last mech standing, I asked which enemy wanted the kill and I tried to give myself to them.
