Hi everyone.

It's stated somewhere that as we climb the xp trees of various chasis in the game, Pilot Points will unlock that we can spend to improve our pilot.

Those of us who bought the Founder's packs...since one assumes there must be some tech tree unlock to allow us to drive the mech...will the appropriate Pilot Points be allocated as well, or will the opportunity to earn them be lost, or something else? Has anyone heard about this?

Thanks for anyone who might know this. I could find nothing about it with search.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to use an assault mech strait out, but you earn XP faster as a "premium" user, which a founder pack grants you as a part of the package for a time determined by your purchase. So, if you're a good mech pilot, you're going to get to using your founder assault mech quickly, presumably. Working these things out are what betas are for, so however the system works, it's probably going to change.

Good thought. I believe some of us will be able to use an assault (Atlas) immediately, and according to Russ it's the Prime variant. Not sure if unlocking tech trees is a requirement to be able to pilot.

Either way, I won't fret, I was just curious.

From the way I've come to understand it. . I think we start the game with an empty garage and some CBills, then we buy mechs earn CBills unlock/buy other mechs and equipment. Founders start with a mech or mechs already, but we can still use the starting pot to upgrade or buy more.

Of course, I could be totally wrong <.<

You guys should read the Role Warfare and other dev blogs. They will answer many of your questions. Long story short though, all mech trees are unlocked from the beginning. Pilot skills can be developed in certain directions that will help all mechs, but obviously some more than others. Example: broadcasting targets to other mechs helps everyone, but light mechs will get more out of it than any other class. Not saying that will be based on skills, but it is an example of the idea. Anyway, read the blogs if you want to know more.

Without being able to link the appropriate posts / info, I am 95.6744% sure that it is like this:

(100% sure) We start with 4 empty Mechbay slots. Founders start with their Founders Mechs IN ADDITION to those slots - 4 empty slots and 4 ADDITIONAL slots filled with Battlemechs in my case for example.
(95.6744% sure) We start with all the necessary skills to use the Founders Mechs that we have. Those Founders Mechs are also the prime variants and count as such with all functions (100% on this bit).

I think the real question is this: Do we need a certein skill to use Light/Med/Hvy/Assault Mechs at all? Or do those pilot skills simply IMPROVE our ability to pilot those Mechs? After all, we are MechWarriors. The basic funtions of the Mechs are all the same, like for example a VW Polo basically works the same way as a Bugatti Veyron. After we know how to drive a car we CAN drive both - how good or safe is a different topic.

Shoot you,

Gridian

The basic skills for a light/med/heavy/assault are the same. You can only improve these skills for each class (as far as i did understand it correctly)

From what's been stated in the past, assuming I am understanding it all correctly -

There is no 'skill' which allows you to pilot a particular 'Mech - if you have it, you can drive it. It isn't like EVE where you have to buy a skillbook to drive a ship, then wait 6 months to be able to use it even close to effectively.
The skills you're talking about are the equivalent of 'Level Ups' for your pilot, showing that they have gained proficiency in the overall driving of Big Stompy Robots. There are also 'Mech skills which are Variant-based, giving you proficiency in driving a particular 'Mech/Variant.

Pretty sure you just get to pilot it automatically, the pilot points you acquire through doing so kind of "level up" how well you can use that battlemech, and what role warfare modules you have access to.
