Hi.

First of all: Great work on getting CW started!

I have a suggestion: The current dropship system causes a problem: In our group (and I imagine this goes for most corps), many players have a designated role: Some are scouts, some are assault pilots, etc. Most light pilots couldn't pilot an assault if their life depended on it, while most assault pilots spend most of their time in a light mech running into walls. Exceptions exist, but are rare.

The current dropship system screws that up. The light pilot ends up with at least an Atlas worth of free tonnage (which he's never going to use) and can't even bring anything smaller than a Jenner unless he want to run a medium for one game, while the Assault pilot can just barely squeeze in two mechs, and then has to sit the rest of the game out in Locusts (And while the Locust can be an impressive mech in the hands of a skilled pilot, with an Assault pilot at the wheel it generally turns into target practice). And that's just assuming the Assault pilot even owns those light mechs.

So my proposal: If a premade group joins a community warfare match, their dropship tonnage is shared between all players, like in a private lobby.

Example: Say a 4-man group (Lucas, Mike, Hans and Anton) joins a match. Together, they can bring 4x240 = 960 tons. Lucas brings 2 Spiders and 2 Jenners, Mike brings 2 Hunchbacks, a Centurion and a Shadowhawk, Hans brings a Catapult, 2 Jagers and a Cataphract and Anton brings an Awesome, a Victor and 2 Atlai.

That makes 130 + 205 + 265 + 360 = 960 tons. Each can pilot the mechs he's good at, but the game is still balanced by tonnage.

Regards,
Itsacon.

CW is supposed to be faction groups fighting faction groups. It's the height of MW:O's competitive gameplay, where it makes sense to deploy an organised group. While you can drop in smaller groups, or alone, that isn't the optimal way to play it, because, by design, you can, and will get matched against proper groups.

It isn't exactly hard to find a group, either, it's a matter of willingness to do well. As such, community warfare SHOULD cater to large groups, and give them bonuses for playing in groups, like this suggested freedom to play what they want.

With this setup, the larger the group, the more freedom the members have. It doesn't screw solo players or small groups, because their purpose is to be adaptive and fill in the gaps in the group.

Current system screws them as well. Anyone who prefers mechs bigger than a Dragon or smaller than a Jenner has a problem right now.

Implementing this doesn't change the overal balance at all. In fact, a 12 man using this to keep pilots in similar mechs throughout the match can't do the whole `Rush them with 12 assaults' thing, since not all pilots will have assaults in their dropship.

Not to mention that it doesn't make sense fluff-wise: How many famous pilots in Battletech lore were famous for constantly switching between Highlanders and Spiders?

Itsacon has the right of it. The current system punishes both high- and low-tonnage specialists, and is in dire need of improvement.

I like the system as it is it forces players to improve in all weight classes not just to specialize in one.

and btw it is not like a real 12man team needs the perfect mech for every pilote to win against 2x4man teams and 2randoms. and in 12v12 matches atlleast the enemy team suffers from the same probs

Contrary to the old Battletech cartoon, there's nothing wrong with specialization.

not really commenting on the tonnage restriction comment or idea, simply you cant implement any game mechanic for one part of the player base and not the rest.
