Whats up with this, why no hyper threading support?

is this the same with crossfire?

The game is just damn hard to optimize. DX11 is not running smoothly as well.

should at least have multicore support. given how cpu intensive it is

i know, its mind boggling.

it would make the game run so much smoother and if only they could enable crossfire as my 280x is going to waste and community warfare is killing my fps

I was using PerfMonitor for a little while to monitor my OC. When playing MWO I would see a minimum of 4 cores/threads on my FX8320/i7 4790k (I have PC's with both chips). Sometimes I would see usage on 5 or 6. That might be because I was streaming or running other programs while gaming. This game hates AMD chips. I bet if the game could use all 8 cores of the FX chip; you would see a lot of problems go away for AMD.

On the MWO launcher...
Click the "Gear" icon in the upper right.
Choose "Use 64-bit client."
Enjoy your multi-core support.
While playing yesterday, Lordred who frequently complains about the lack of the game using cores said he was impressed it got up to using 8 cores, however briefly.

Its not AMD specific. MWO just hates more than one core. The AMD guys are particularly affected because of AMD's strategy of more cores vs single thread performance.

Crossfire works with my oc'd 8320 and 2 asus r9 280's.

Did you try http://mwomercs.com/...sers-look-here/ ?

Also if you have msi afterburner disable ulps(Ultra low power state) it will help your frames a ton also disable v-sync.

Crossfire does nothing to improve performance in this game. There is zero impact on my FPS with two HD 7970s backed by an i7-3820 versus using just one HD 7970.

^ THIS HELPS! ^

I am on a old (antique) AMD quad core system, and the 64bit option helped smooth out my gameplay.
My FPS used to dip into the red in heavy combat, but not anymore! :D

I fixed it for you.

And the 64 bit client, still doesnt support multi threading.

Its just 64bit.

And theres almost no advantage to it, other than it uses slightly more ram.

64 bit didn't help me at all. Which is a shame as CW crawls to 20fps or less before long.

If the game doesn't support multi-threading, then why has it always performed significantly better on quad-core CPUs (or even triple-core CPUs) than dual-core CPUs?

It IS using more than one core at a time. It's only when you have more than four cores that it doesn't improve performance (or if it does, it's very little improvement).

FYI, there are very few games that use more than three or four cores at a time. The current sweet spot is four cores. Maybe in five to ten years, games will actually need more than four cores, but no sooner than that.

The game supports multi-threading fine. It spawns 30+ threads to run the game, both 32 and 64-bit versions.

Run perfmon /res and look at the CPU tab while it's running. If it's not using all your CPU you are likely GPU bound.

You can try to force multithreading on your video card (NVidia has this... AMD probably has it as well) and I'm told that may help some folks out.

The game needs a large dose of optimization and proper threading IMO.

Just think how many bugs we would get if they started this. I kind of hope they don't.

You can try to force anything you want.
Fact of the matter is, MWO, no matter how beast/ghetto your machine, will always run poorly.

It's just one of those games.

Starting what exactly?

FYI, the NVidia version has that option set to Auto, as the driver will determine on its own whether there are performance gains. Outside of that... it's a mystery to everyone.
