I love how we in House Steiner just hasn't even been mentioned... which means we're the toughest faction. Why?

Who needs competence when we can just buy all your mercs? We're basically the Lannisters of Battletech.

Actually you're better than them. The Lannisters started going broke after taking over the crown (Their gold mines were running dry). Your virtual funds are endless.

^This. If there is one thing you can count on from Marik, is that when you start dropping against them, they will shift their tactics to try and throw a spanner in the works.

Makes the fights that more challenging when this happens as you are forced to adapt as well.

Pfff. Change our tactics? This assumes we use tactics in the first place.

The secret to Marik success is the fact that WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO NEXT. Light Blitz? Storm the gate with assaults? Mixed wave? Slight-of-Hand? Run in, open the Beta gate, run back out, open the Alpha gate, run back out, then push both because we spilled bacon grease on the GPS and have no idea what we're even trying to do? We go with whatever the hell we happen to feel like doing at the time, and that's subject to change all the way up to and including half-way through the wave.

So good luck trying to figure out what we're going to do and how to counter us, and if you do, let us know, because we're still trying to figure it out, ourselves.

Or like the one day before drop we all did a mad scramble to put together 3 missile mechs. We then decided to fight them all with missiles... I think we got over 1000 into the air at one point...

Smoke Jaguar loyalists are the hardest, most consistently tough enemies I've had to fight. SA, JGx have both brought the pain to the game. Good training for fighting fedrats.

Out of the factions that House Kurita is able to face, Smoke Jaguars are by far the most dangerous. JGx has a lot of incredibly talented pilots and fights against them are always tough. I respect them a lot even if some of their players are trollish. SA and CGBI are both competent teams as well, depending on which pilots they are fielding in a particular match they can give us (Night's Scorn) a tough match.

Comstar Irregulars are a tough bunch, back when House of Lords where together they gave me a hassle too, but no team has been nearly as well-coordinated and pin-point accurate as Mercstar's 12 man teams, especially when lead by hybrid black, or Antonius Rex.

While gunnery skills and situational-awareness are important for the individual player, team matches are determined by focusing fire, and knowing how to position your own team so the damage spreads out.

When I fight against the best [-MS-] has to offer, I can get caught for a split second in the open as I walk around a concrete barrier, and one of my legs or side-torsos will be blown off with the rest of my 'mech perfectly clean. Coordination and firm command-discipline is what wins games.

Not gonna read through all the replies, just state a fact. My group drops were going pretty well for a while there. No one faction seemed harder then another. Then focus shifted to Kurita and my group drops have been getting our asses handed to us ever since.

unquestionably csj. their loyalist units are about as strong as any in the game, and somehow, someway, their pugs actually work together and can make even a 12 man work for their victory. hats off to them

They get everyone on TS and seem to all use the same TS. Even loyalist units.

They have a lot of tricks that every house could stand to use to coordinate their pugs.

Mercs are the toughest faction, with 228 being the best I have played recently. I can't think of any super good house units.

If your unit wasn't constantly running away to hide from any good units in order to farm weak factions and pugs maybe you would have had a chance to fight someone that wasn't on the Mercstar TS.

The only Clan I've ever fought: Ghost Bear.

They're tough. Not invincible, but incredibly resilient and almost as persistent as the Hussars.

I went inactive for the month of January but for the initial launch of CW through December, I remember the grueling, white-knuckle fights with Davion the clearest. Wazan, Asuncion, Old Kentucky? Nuff said. Those fights had a desperation to them that brought out everybody's 110% percent, like hand-to-hand fighting during a trench raid.

As a grunt, I really can't say I knew what the hell was going on in terms of tactics or strategy, but I do remember the sheer violence and raw brutality of those initial weeks.

Grueling fights, and oft close calls. Nuff said.
