Sarcastic as that may sound, given the server-side hit registration, I find it to work better than I would expect. I would expect it to not work at all to be honest.

The Raven proceeded to core out my until-then undamaged ThunderWub with his 2 x LL while I fired 4-5 alphas (7 x MPL) at his undamaged leg while I charged toward him. I managed to turn the leg armor orange. I had to break off to avoid dying... a teammate then popped up and killed the Raven with SRMs.

Just playing Devils Advocate here...
Were you shooting at the correct leg? It can be easy in the heat of battle to get the destroyed leg and good leg mixed up. There is no REALLY clear visual indicator on the mech (unless he is moving and limping). Also, you can read the damage doll (whatever you call it) wrong. Maybe you kept shooting the destroyed leg with dome damage being applied yo the good one.
While you were doing this you were running straight at him. If two ERLLasers repeatedly hit the same location (full duration), that is a lot of damage.
So, If you got off 5 alphas at the wrong leg while he got maybe 4 dual ERLLaser blasts at your CT while you ran straight at him....I can see this being very plausible.
Again, just playing Devils Advocate. I wasn't there, I'm just coming up with a plausible possibility based off of what you said. Mostly because I have made that mistake myself in the heat of battle.

Can't be 100% positive, of course, but I'm pretty sure I was shooting the correct leg. When I originally legged him his right side was facing me (he was shooting something 90 degrees to my right) and I shot his right hip. When he turned toward me, I started shooting his left leg.
I was zoomed in the entire time, and very sure I was hitting.

Admittedly, it could be. It's an 18 damage alpha, so he'd have to hit the same spot at least 3 times to strip my armor, but it's totally possible.
But even if just 50% damage transfer from shooting the already destroyed leg, my alpha was 42 so should have been doing 21 back at him. To his CT internals. There's no way he should have been able to out-damage me, even at slightly beyond my ideal range. (Both of his legs were already damaged by the time I engaged him, which is why my first alpha easily took off one leg.)
Of course, this is also a Raven we're talking about. They've always had wonky hit boxes, particularly in the legs.
/shrug. HSR... wonky hit boxes... who knows? It was certainly weird.

Very legit points (especially considering damage transfer).
Just looking for a possibility. Normally Hit Reg is wonky in this game when a mech is moving 120kph+, but good when standing still or moving slow (like a legged mech).
Like you said though, the Raven is known for weird leg hitboxes as well.
