First you gotta be nutty enough to buy a VND.

Then take said VND, like the VND-1X out into the field with this kind of build!

Forum is really messing with me, can't quote for some reason... Regarding the BNC-3M build with single heat sinks.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...251e710233e7da6

Just an FYI, but this is objectively worse than dropping endo steel and replacing with double heatsinks in every spot you can.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...5a347bce458be1d

By doing that you get 37% cooling efficiency as opposed to 32%. You can also upgrade your engine all the way to a 325 engine by dropping a measly 10 points of armor, or go 320 with 1 less heat sink, still superior to the single heat sink build at 36% efficiency, and keep all your armor.

I know it seems "objectively worse," but it actually isn't. The reason is that the way Smurfy's calculates heat efficiency is not really all that relevant to in-game performance. Compare the two versions in-game and you will find the SHS version a LOT more forgiving.

AC20 / Gauss ravens deserve a mention! Especially now that there are .5 ton ammo increments. Back in Closed beta 1 JJ did the work of 20 so you could get to the highest positions, was a damn good time.

I just ran this... 2 kills 7 assists 901 Damage. Double Heatsinks are overrated.

BNC-3M

I made a Wub-Master with 3 LPL. Smaller Alpha-Strike, but it runs cool, so I can fire a lot before overheating. And it is sooooo fast, I can hunt down medium mechs.
Also excellent for shooting over hills, all weapons are at cockpit-height.

2 Gauss 2 ER PPC Dire Wolf, 6-8 tons of ammo for the Gauss Rifles, and max out on Heat Sinks, add a Targeting Computer mark I and your set!

I know, CRAZY build! Going to be even more crazy with the supposed new Omni-pod for the Dire Wolf!

I just tried out a bit of a different build. Not quite the "lelz, let's put 800 ppcs on a dire wolf!" kind of thing, but with 5 ER PPCs on the DWF-B on the first match I got into:

Just bought a DWF-S. Exchanged left and right arms for prime arms. Put 7 LLAS and 6 mlas (5 llas torso/head, 1 in each arm; 3x3 mlas in each arm). Two groups of llas (left and right 4x4-head llas is on both groups) each medium is a self contained cluster of 3. 116 point alpha. Only chain fire llas, and use mlas as light defense/brawling weapons (requires discipline.... Lots of discipline). Remaining tonnage is all heat sinks. So far it is doing ok in CW. Have not tested it in pug drops. Strictly a fun/crazy build. I will link smurfy build to it later.

That's enough ammo for about 14 minutes of continuous fire. Given that a match is 15 minutes at most (and almost always much less), I guess that's one way to be really sure that you never run out of ammo...

I have always been a fan of the Nova with 12xML hence I thought what about that Executioner-D ?? It is gotta be able to boat serious number of energy weapons (like 11xML and 1xLPL) therefore I built this abomination

EXE-D

My favorite mech at the moment in solo queue. There is something satisfying with having the mech pop out of cover and firing all those lasers into somebodies face, add MASC to quickly run away and you have one seriously annoying alpha machine. I have got lots of good matches with this machine in the solo queue where I have had most kills and most damage.

You just gotta be patient tough and cool of for 30 seconds B) after you shoot somebody.

If someone has the guts to run this machine in CW tell me about it....

This was my love right up until it because THE IS PPC MACHINE. Sad, because this was SO much more fun to run:

TDR-9S

2 Flamers, 3 MLs, 1 ERLL, 2 MG, 2 AMS, BAP, 85kph

The flamers were really good at shutting down hot-running builds (read: Clan laser-vomit mechs) and blinding them, the BAP took out the ECM advantage, the ERLL was suitably pokey at distance, the MGs...well...they at least made a constant racket in an enemy's cockpit, I guess.

But with the Quirkening, it was just too juicy to pass up flipping the thing to an ERPPC mech, although I did break from the meta a little bit when I switched over (smaller engine, but went with 2 ERPPCs, 2 MLs, and kept the dual AMS).

I used a 12 flamer Nova with 4MGs, chewed through the atlas in traning grounds in a few seconds, actual battle prowess was ZERO however. I opted to stand behind hills and global chat the other team that the volcano is about to erupt (shootng 12 flamers into the sky) and that they better get out while they still can. somehow this also failed...

Honorable mention to the Gauss Boss 3xGauss Illya, except that mech was actually effective, R.I.P.

I actually played a match with somebody in a Nova using the 12 flamer build with 4 mgs. He or she just tore shite up left and right, slaughtered mechs with allied fire support and then after a good 8 minutes of solid performance exploded from heat buildup. I spectators him after I died and the only issue was that win all flamers going (on one weapon group!) it sounded like an industrial strength toilet flushing.

It was sick.

Been using this for the last few games. Somewhat effective but I still shake my own head every time I take it out, because seriously who brings LRMs on a Gargoyle?

GAR-Beekeeper

Nicknamed Beekeeper off the top of my head because the launchers look like it has a beehive on its arm
