A friend and I dropped in CW. Clan mechs. We managed to land some matches pretty quick. Got excited to see the new map and check out the new CW. First match was against a 12 man defending Boreal Vault. Their first wave was 6 Thunderbolt ERPPC mechs with 3 assaults and 3 ECM lights. Didn't even reach the base. They had wiped out 30 of our mechs and we had only killed 5. in the first 10 minutes. After that the PUGs I was with just gave up and started to eject and/or just stand at the drop site and die (by now the enemy just camped our drop site) The enemy team didn't even lose their first drop set.

Second drop was on Sulferous rift. Again different assortment of PUGs against a 12 man defending their base. Again 6 or 7 ERPPC Thunderbolts with an assortment of ECM mechs and assaults. Same outcome we got stomped 48 to 17. Is CW a thing in this game for 12 mans to farm PUGs for Cbills? No wonder no one on my team wants to play CW.

Can you guys give me any advice on what type of clan builds succeed in CW? Mine don't seem to do very well.

Yes, PUGstomping is the most common outcome. Occasionally you'll face another large group, but it's rare.

What are your current Clan builds?

Warhawk:

3 x LRM10 + A
2 x ERLL
2 x MLL
1 x Tag

Hellbringer

1 x UAC5
1 x LPL
2 x ERML
2 x SRM6
1 x ECM

Stormcrow

3 x LRM10
4 x ERML

Adder

2 x ERLL
2 x ERSL

Going against Timbers and Crows, running a blend of LPLs and ERMLs they can be tough to fight, they can severely damage or disable you one on one and have excellent range overall, and forget it if you are facing more than one.

ASRMs or Streak Boats with CAP are another common type of build I've seen, the Crows can do these rather well and have 5 Missile Hardpoints plus an energy or two available.

A blend of ERMLs with Gauss also seems popular on various mechs and is rather effective.

Another is using 4 ERLLs or Gauss with ERPPC that I've seen.

The most annoying personally is any mix of LRM / ALRM, due to CW maps; with the Mad Dog's six LRM-5s being rather maddening indeed!

Adder is the only thing I wouldn't personally change, but the Loki is the thing that should really be touched.

Too many weapon groups, not enough synergy. You should pick something specific you want it to do. 2 UACs or 2 LPLs, with backup lasers and a Jesus Box, for example. It is pretty versatile, Gauss or ERLLs and ERMLs are also good options. I would avoid missiles on it, which is better filled by the MadDog.

I wouldn't know. I got tired of watching 30 minutes of "transferring pilots", then have the game decide that it was only kidding and I'm the only one of the 12 players not allowed to play.

The Warhawk with 4 LPL's can be very annoying to the enemy team. Fit the weapons and stuff it full of heat sinks. Needs no ammo and runs fairly cool if you don't alpha every shot.

It can be a bit on the rough side when in a pug vs 12 man; regardless of which side you're in. Occasionally, the stars align, and you eat the 12 man.

When dropping as a pug; the vs pug is usually a good brawl.

I highly recommend dropping on the faction coms or sit in with a unit till you can see how to do it right.

I can pug effectively, but only because I know what it's supposed to look like when a team is winning.

Learning by losing is a lot tougher than learning by winning.

Best advice I can give you is try CW only after it's no longer Beta. Even then don't expect much. Details here.

To the OP no its not always like this. I actually said exactly that two matches ago. "To anyone not involved in this synch drop, this isnt a typical match" lol

I dont know if it was a synch drop or not but my point was that 14 to 48 kills may well be the worste star map match i have been in. Not to mention i was called out by name and trolled from start to finish. :)

Anyway, when few are on it seems the matches go worse for stomps. Thats a fact.

Hi pop times are alot better to be playing thats for sure.

I will add, low pop times being worse for stomps has been going on since the game came out of beta. In my experience anyway.

My advice is if you do not have access to carry mode players and are not doing +2kdmg most games, don't play with anything less than an 8-10 man group because you cannot carry the bads you will get. Also you will not face many teams that are not groups as there are these big quantity over quality groups spamming 12s at clan borders. If you are a crappy pugs even they will beat you every time.

I shouldn't be telling you why you are losing in CW, it is kind of treason, but I'm feeling nice today.

Do not bring LRMs.

Unless: You have multiple teammates who will bring UAVs and deploy them effectively and your enemy "doesn't have the tonnage" for AMS.

Sure you might do 2x as much damage when you're using LRMs compared to when you're using direct fire weapons. This damage is spread over many components, cannot be aimed at an exposed component and limits your ability to switch targets fast.

Warhawk:

3 x LRM10 + A
2 x ERLL
2 x MLL
1 x Tag

Swap to 4xLPL, or if you really want to keep LRMs use WHK-B (swap the lasers for 5xMPL is also good, drop one laser for a Tag if you want. Dont use artemis on LRMs.

Hellbringer

1 x UAC5
1 x LPL
2 x ERML
2 x SRM6
1 x ECM

Terrible build. Dont use missiles on HBRs for a start, it makes the RT hitbox HUGE. Suggest Gauss+4ERML for CW

Stormcrow

3 x LRM10
4 x ERML

Eh, id swap this for a streakcrow for light hunting personally. SSRM18 in the torsos and ASRM6 in each arm is also a nice build.

Adder

2 x ERLL
2 x ERSL

Eh, preference. Id swap this for a Kitfox personally, or use it with 2xLPL

Try 2x HBR (2ll & 4ml / 1lpl & 5ml) 2x SCR (2ll & 3ml / 1lpl & 5ml), works well for me to farm cbills.
