Hi!
Thought I would list the only engines you should use when you take Weight VS Rating in consideration.
Listing free tonnage after minimum amount of heatsinks are added, armour is stripped

XL Free tons/Speed (without tweak & rounded down)
180: 18.5/97
170: 19/91
145: 19.5/78
125: 20/67
120: 20/61 so no use for this really
100: 20.5/54

in comparison
STD
60: 21.5/32
180: 15/97

So really not much weight to play with either way but 1 ton makes a huge difference for that 1 extra heatsink or ton or ammo.

360 Torso twist get really slow with anything less than an 145

Yeah I have thought about the STD 180 for some builds too, but atm mostly tried out the big guns for fun :)

You shouldnt forget that the XL150 & XL175 need one less heatsink ! ... thats not only 1 ton less, you also gain 1 or 3 additional slots, which might come in handy when you want to use EndoSteel + FerroFibrous

You can use 2 ERppc together with a XL175 and ZERO free slots, if you upgrade to ES+FF

Mech Weight x desired walking speed = Engine rating

Running Speed = 1.5 * Walking Speed

The minimum of 10 heatsinks really kills any and all viable builds with the 125 and below, but those are too slow anyway.

I know I am flogging a dead horse but Urbbies are NOT meant for the wall of battle. They are not meant to be speedy scouts.

They are URBAN mechs. Cop Cars of the 3050 if you will. Meant for a REAL urban map with alley ways. Mega Scrappers and long straight city streets. Dense Buildings and corners to pop out from.

I salute PGI for giving us one of the fun mechs. And some really awesome cockpit items.

I just wish we could have a real city map :) A 60 engine urbbie on Alpine Peaks was beyond painful :P

Running XL125 on all my Urbies. Had to use SHS on two of them because not enough slots. Turns out it's still functional.

If your left torso is destroyed all you're left with is 2 MGs. I always use that as the deciding factor on whether or not I'll go STD vs XL: If losing either of my sides leaves me in a position where I'm pretty much dead anyway, I just go XL. True, if you lose your right torso you're still in the action, but you're effectively eliminating half the risk of an XL by creating a situation where only one of your side torsos truly ends the game. This disadvantage can then be compared against things like bigger guns. :D

But this is just my personal opinion; to each their own. :)

Yes but the 175 weigh as much as the 180 (and same amount of heatsinks) so its no point in getting the 175 and the 150 weigh as much as the 170 (and same amount of heatsink) so no point in getting the 150 either. In your build you can put in the 180 instead of the 175 without changing anything.

So in short. If I want big guns and if any backup weapons I should stick to STD engine, if I go mainly wubs and pewpew, rattata etc I go for XL?

Well big guns weigh more so as long as you have space you probably need an XL to fit everything. At least if you want to use an autocannon without eing slow as hell. :)

when you just want to spam lots of lightweight guns it can work with a STD

Or, refer to this chart for all mechs :P
I know there's no XL60, made the chart before the urbs actual release, and we sort of assumed we'd get one.

Great chart, I put something like this together but yours is complete for all engines and the layout is much nicer.

You do have some errors in the standard engines lower than 150. Your HS weight is not included in the total weight for some of them.

Can someone please explain why my urban UAC5 build is now 1 ton over weight?

Had 180XL, 3 HS, 4 ton Ammo and 2 SL, 1 JJ what has changed?!
