Its been a little more then a yr now since i last tried this but now that PSR will be out soon I figured i'd try this idea again. :D BUMP!

<--- Lets get and update for forum Profile pic (the one under your name here in the forums) into a PilotSkill pic (and maybe let us put a "real" pic in it too? lol) B). Something like in the MechCommander games, we would see, piloting, gunnery, jumping, sensors, kills, rank etc..
Just to give an ex: http://lparchive.org...p1mis2_-_02.png

Something like this but nicer of course, maybe have a flag hanging off the left side to rep. your house or clan(picture frames could differ between factions).

...(n yes i made it in paint :P lots of cuts n pastes)

^^^ Try to think of this when i'm talking about the pilot skills.^^^

What I have in mind is applying the "stats" page to this. We have lots of numbers and a wide selection of stuff that could apply to a "pilots skill" but we need to make it so its still something you have to work your way into, and that everyone can do it.

So here's the idea i had and we can tweak as we go along.

1. Rank -
Green to Ace... 5 rank based on total mech xp earned
Green - 1-100k, Regular - 101-200k, Veteran - 201-300k, Elite - 301-400k, Ace - 401-500k

2. Gunnery -
Your % Hit avg.. this would make the bar scale +/- , so numbers wouldn't matter just the players skill. A set amount of damage will be needed(10k?) then your avg.% would kick-in. Until then the skill is locked at 25%.
Or have the options to show:
- avg% of all weapons (general mastery) or
- agv.% of weapon class. (a "weapon specialist" - lasers, missiles, ballistics, ppc)
This way you could show u have a general mastery or if you specialized in a wep.type.

3. Piloting -
Based on hrs played, but hrs played by each weight class.
The bar will have 5 factors. Hours played by lights, med, heavy's & assaults, the 5th will require to have at least 1 Mastered mech (each weight class will count as 20% of the bar).
As for how many hrs each should need I'd like to see it around 75or100hr for each weight class.
*A high piloting skill would only mean they have hrs logged in different weights. This will encourage players to play other weight classes if they would like to see any progression on this skill.

4. Sensors -
Get Narc/tag,Spotting & BAP/ECM 300 times.
(can be achieved by getting 300 of one thing(ex:narc) or combo of all (50/50/50).

5. Jumping -
Total time spent JJ. 6/10hrs to fill bar? (yes I know 6/10hrs is a lot, poptarts will max this out easily)

6. Kills/Assists - Shows total kills & assists (can only be seen by you)

so its a rough idea id like to get your guys thoughts, comments & suggestions plz

not sure how you would work out the stats but I like the idea of having my pilot skills shown with my profile picture. maybe get this in the MM too?

edit:

would be awesome if the 1st link was the MM at least for your own team, and I could so see something like the 2nd link for the profile page. agree double thumbs up!! do it now!!

I don't really have a problem with tracking numbers like this, except that it can encourage seeking bigger numbers at the expense of actually playing the game. I'm thinking about all the times in World of Warcraft where my party got wiped out partway through a dungeon because someone was more focused on getting their damage tracking UI mod to show bigger numbers rather than filling a role, whether that role was healing the people who need healing, controlling enemies trying to make a bee-line for healers, or whatever. As long as these numbers aren't prominently displayed in the player list all the time (eg you have to select the player and choose "show stats") I don't think there's really any downside.

If CW were already out and polished I'd be all for it.

Edit: did you mean for this poll to have checkboxes instead of radio buttons?

It would be pretty awesome if the MM looked something like that. It would make it easier for new players to notice more skilled player an to keep near them.

It wouldn't show any numbers just a few bars for a few skills that look like they only scale up.

No doubt this should be added. The pic could be used on the field for the Com wheel when it is added to boot. Great suggestion and it cant be added soon enough. Maybe some day a character creator like Eve has would be great to with pilot quarters.

When a player first logs in, the mech facility AI should say "Welcome Mechwarrior" much like the mech ai Betty on the field. The facility to consist of the mech bay and pilot quarters to start.

This is some basics I had hoped to see in game by now.
