If you want paint or camo it's best to wait until it is on sale. Actually anything you want to buy with MC (except maybe mech bays) you should wait until it is on sale.

colors are unlocked for unlimited use
camos are rather expensive as a chassis unlock
personally I use one shot camo patterns only
you can still change the colors on those afterwards as many times as you want
I think I paid like 0.85$ in MC when I used a one shot camo on my new Ebon Jaguar (prime)

since IGP has been hit on the way out
good events are more common and bring more usefull stuff
I think I won like 10 Mechbays through all the events that had cool stuff (MC, C-Bills)
though not the summer heat event at the moment, right?

False.
The sales are rare and only come about 2-3 times a year, but they do happen.
*edit*
In the past, they have put them on sale for 50% off. VERY well worth it if you have the patience to wait around for one and then just spend big and get as many of them as you want.

I Haven't gotten one yet, but I've only done 40. I still haven't decided if I'm going to check the assault mode box yet.

I stand corrected. Still, they aren't particularly expensive to begin with.

But like other have said, use the ONE SHOT camo, NOT the UNLOCKABLE ONE.
One shot works on ONE MECH, Unlockable allows it for ALL Variants of that Chassis. Its like 125 MC for the most expensive camos this way.
Also, the rpices in this game are not that bad. Go look at some other F2P games which use a simialr structure...Games like WoT are right on par and actually this game is cheaper for most of the necessary items like mech bays and Premium Time is a great buy, double your cbill earnings.

Depends on whether you like to play around with different camo patterns. With the one shot, once you change it you have to rebuy it. The unlock will be there forever for any variant of that chassis.

Like the Locusts...I think there are like 7 variants of them. Unlocking a camo for that would be cheaper than one-shots for all of them. At least it used to be...I haven't looked at the math for a long time.
There are also a few colors that you can purchase with C-bills in the game. But I think they are like $1.5 Mil each or something.
I won about 2 mech bays so far in the event that is going on right now. So there are other ways to get stuff for free.....not including your time.
Hmm....here's a question....
Do the one-shots work on just that one mech (likely), or on all mechs that are that same variant?
I heard about a guy a while back who has like 30 something of the same Hunchback. Ya, I don't get it either. But if he buys a one-shot for that variant, I wonder if that can be used on all of those. Na...probably not. Forget that I asked.

Wot dose not require you have 3 of each chassi to be effective in it. so no this game is 3x more expensive because of its experience mastery requirements. i agree mech bays are at a decent price if light mechs were more valued at or around the cost of the bay to house it in i would agree. premium time.. is however not its not even a 100% boost like many games and its overvalued compared to the same bonus on other games.

The chassis unlock may be good if you like to change the patterns on your mechs. Maybe on a a few chassis that you like and have a few favorite patterns. Other than that, a good camouflage patter is sufficient and a few darker colors. Almost forgot, only get the chassis patterns on sale and be patient waiting for one.

30 bucks is quite an exaggeration, even with the "premium patterns" even if you're picking the brightest "KILL ME" colors you can possible use.
Lets assume you go for one of the premium fancy patterns... 1,500 MC
Plus 3 premium colors: 1,000 * 3 = 3,000.
1,500 + 3,000 = 4,500
If you bought a 6,500 MC package for $29.95... you're spending $20.734
There's three issues here:
1) You're snagging stuff without waiting for a sale. Virtually all businesses, whether JC Penny/Macy's/even Walmart marks up their prices. This way when they go on sale, you're getting what is essentially the perceived 'real' value of the product. Typically this is 30% off what is marked on MWO. (Reference in great detail).
2) You're going for the Most Expensive Stuff. Pay attention to what you're getting. Very easily you can emulate it with slightly duller colors for a fraction of the price. (For example the same setup mentioned above: Single use version of 1,500 camo [example Buccaneer) is 150 MC. Using slightly duller shades of the same 3 colors comes to 500 MC each * 3 colors = 150 + 500 + 500 + 500 = 1,650 MC which assuming you got the same 29.95 dollar MC package is $7.60. That's without sales. Doing it during sales you can cut it to about 4 bucks or less. Biggest MC package, you can make up for less than 2 bucks.
3) Follow this ruleset to help justify your purchases:
- Paints are permanent and universal. Any color you buy is yours forever and can be used on ALL mechs. Buy once and done.
- Patterns are not universal but are essentially permanent come in two forms. Single Use (Dirt Cheap!!!) goes for a single individual mech and remains until you change it [permanent until changed]. Unlock (Pricey but totally worth it) goes for an entire chassis (example: Hunchback) and can be used on all variants (4P, 4G, 4H, 4J, 4SP), permanent.

the one shot can be applied to a single Mech only once, so if you change the pattern you will have to pay again to reapply it. however you can change the colours at any time.
the unlock costs 10 times as much as the one shot, so the only time an unlock may be worthwile is if it is on sale at 50% off and you buy for a chassis with a lot of varients.
Colours go on sale, it used to be a case of one "set" of colours went on sale every month, but now colour sales are less frequent but usualy for a larger range of colours.
a pack from the website store is a good way to get a lot of colours, for example the Resistance II preorder pack,
https://mwomercs.com/resistancetwo
it is still a few months before you will get the content, however $20 pack gets you 3 Wolfhound variants and your choice of a faction pack with 6 colours and some cockpit items, $40 tier gets 3 each wolfhound and Crab and 2 faction packs, the $60 gets you the Black Knight, wolfhound and Crab as well as 4 faction packs, the $80 will get you the Marauder, the other Mechs (12 Mechs total) and 6 faction packs for 36 colours, as well as cockpit items and some premium time (the amount depends on level of pack you purchase).
buying stuff in MWO is not as cheep as some other games, but in this game it is very possible to be competitive at the top levels without spending any real money.
the only things you have to pay real money for are cosmetic, early access or time saving in nature

Because all of it is grind reduction and cosmetics. There is no pay to win or pay to play scheme which most other games rely on. Nor does MWO have millions of users that would let it run on microtransactions alone. With semi regular play, you get enough freebies through events to unlock things like colours, one-shot camos, and whatever else you might want. You can spend $0 and still make your mechs look purdy, just not immediately.
Redscyte, on 18 June 2015 - 09:54 AM, said:
Not the camos. Colours are unlocked globally for all mechs.
