I think my biggest issue with UAVs is no one calling them when they see them. Too many times they have been over my head for the duration yet those who are in position to say something are in tunnel vision mode.
In an assault by the time you back out to get guns on them their time has run out.

OH NO YOU HAVE TO USE ANOTHER VISION MODE TO SEE THEM
if anything it helps justify having other vision modes in the first place...

The biggest thing that I really hate about UAVs is how inconsistent it is to be able to target them. I have seen a large number of times where a UAV is in plain view just from looking up (while not even being far away either) and I'm almost never allowed to target them to let the team see the UAV on the radar, meanwhile I don't always have arm mounted lasers (that can reach far enough) in order to deal with it.
Can somebody explain that crap? It is seriously annoying.

It makes sense that such a small target would be hard to pickup on radar, therefore you need to be very close.
If you can see it, shoot it down. If you can't (torso mounted weapons, etc), call it out in VOIP so someone else can.

Or how easy....
Must be the colors on my monitor but i see two blue blips on a white background in the first picture.
Not that hard to see on my rig....even without "Silent film Era" Vision. Maybe my monitor colors are wack....
I am also partially color blind BTW....

Yeah, at full resolution they are perfectly visible for me as well.

The problem is that if you need to be so close to the UAV that you can't even see it by looking up (due to limited torso pitch) then that's pretty damn stupid now isn't it? There shouldn't be an unnecessary burden on me to go out of my way (beyond simply spotting it on my radar when it's in plain view) to let people know that there's a UAV overhead either. This solution is very similar to "your teammates can see that you're NARC'd so it's fine if you can't see it" which was also stupid and (after a long time coming) a NARC indicator was added to the target's HUD a while ago.

The appearance of UAV's could be changed to make them equally recognizable on all maps.
Why you ask? Possibly to address something called game balance. Does that make sense?
Or you could just do the common sense thing and use heat vision on that map.

Provided there are mechs to drop artillery on. Unless you see red triangles, dropping artillery could be a total waste.

I'm a lot more worried by the fact that UAVs are not carried away by the winds.

if you're walking around in frozen city without thermal on then not spotting UAVs is the least of your worries

Pretty much the first thing I do after startup sequence in Frozen City is swap to thermals, you can't see s*** in the damn snowstorms.
