I am seriously thinking our building a desktop for my 4k monitor once skylake is out .The thing is, I am not sure which will yield better frame rates: 980ti or fury x? While I had heard 4k is amd strong suite cause of hbm, a lot of gaming benchmarks shows otherwise. I am not optimistic that pgi will code the game with dx12 once windows 10 is out in the near future. So which one is better for mwo?

Take a look at this review. It specifically addresses the 4K aspect of those two cards.

Keep in mind that the 980TI also has the headroom OC at least into the mid 1300s (you can OC more than that, but the card will TDP limit without a modded bios, so you might as well stop there). Fury X has very little headroom.
This was the same decision I just had to make, and even as someone who's traditionally an AMD fan, I got a 980TI (EVGA SC+)

The basic summary of this and other 4K tests on the two cards is that the 980Ti is narrowly faster (typically by about 5%).

If your going single card the 980ti is better; quicker more VRAM and plenty of OC room.
If your going for more than one card the Fury X scales better in crossfire.
Having said that Nvidias drivers are more efficient at DX11.
I would pick the 980ti

Picked up the EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid (AIO Liquid Cool).
Running it at 4K; all options on highest settings.
Runs MWO very well and heat tops out at 45 C.

Copy pasta.
As one of the few members who has a 60hz 4k Monitor, I present my most recent logged data.
Playing in a Firestarter:
55fps Avg using a FPS limit of 63, with a minimum fps of 33
Non Overclocked AMD 8350 + Titan X 3840x2160 with the game on Very High + FXAA
