I had the pleasure of fighting many battles there yesterday, and the quality of the battles improved throughout the day, as the players began to know their way around. The last ten battles there were truly fantastic, at times rivaling some of the best I've seen in CW.
It actually feels like a forest now... and the jumping light mechs especially have got to be loving this place.
I found the water mist effect to be especially outstanding.
Credit given where credit is due, PGI you have again produced some very fine work. These new maps are a vast improvement, and I am looking forward to seeing more of this in the future.
Congratulations for an exceptional performance!

Yes, and a lot of that is unfamiliarity with the terrain - I did notice the matches improving as people got to know the terrain better.
Part of what I like is how the battles are occurring on different parts of the map - there is enough space and variability there for quite a variety of tactics.

I have been on this map 3 times as a practice field and about four in the game. It plays different each time.

Yeah that's true. My second battle on the map happened in an entirely different place.

I only have a couple of complaints about either of them...
1. Having to listen to the kiddos complain the map is too large and matches take too long... Sorry but this is MechWarrior not a twitch shooter, such as the few un-named failed games. I personally say the bigger the better, and the size adds so much more to the match/strategies available. However, that is only my personal opinion... Now, if we could only get people out of the mind set that the fight must still happen around the deathball otherwise known as the citadel... lol...
2. While I think the day/night cycle is a very cool addition to the game. I think it all happens way too fast, and needs to be slowed down a lot. Even if that means a match doesn't last long enough for the cycle to complete. Again, just my opinion as it just throws it off for me...
3. With the size of the new maps, perhaps it is time to adjust the match time a bit. What I mean is on the Forest Colony map you have 15 minutes right... I saw a few people talking about it being a rush and a few minutes to even group up. They are correct, and by the time that happens you have 10 or so minutes left for the fight. Now, lets be honest for a second here. Most battles when they actually start don't last much longer than a couple of minutes minus the hunting of the last couple of mechs. But, if we had a bit more time on the new maps perhaps it could change and allow for adjustments to strategies. Just my two cents.
Other than that, they get a job well done from me!!!
