Hey folks,

Yesterday we tried something new to help incentivize CW a little more. We were looking at the current IS map and thinking about what would the current Faction leaders be doing right now? A lot of the IS leaders would be miffed. A lot of the Clan leaders would be showing bravado and trash talking not just the IS forces but their peers as well. (Imagine what CJF would be saying about CGB right now.)

We decided to see what we could do in the short term to bring some of the emotions and lore into play to start changing the course of the current state of Community Warfare.

Scenario 1) Marik wants it's district capitol planet back. 'Marik'. To get there they need to take Angell II first. As per the write-up, Marik's leadership was not too happy and demanded all forces to take Angell II back with the planet Marik as the end goal. To any MechWarrior that achieved a win on that planet's successful change of ownership would receive 4M C-Bills. Not a lot of Merik players went for it and the planet didn't turn.

Scenario 2) Liao wants the planet Sarna for tactical purposes. Sarna is a district capitol planet and the reward was raised to 300 MC. During NA primetime, it was a close call for Liao taking Sarna. But in the last few moments, House Davion provided just enough defense to prevent Liao from taking it. Liao was at one point 54% ownership. It wasn't until Oceanic primetime that Liao mustered enough wins to fully take Sarna with a whopping 77% ownership. This tiggers the 300 MC win condition.

Uh oh... after Liao took the planet, the automated planet selector gave Clan Jade Falcon an attack lane to Sarna. This means that if CJF took the planet, Liao would not have won their 300 MC reward. To prevent this, I turned Sarna to Liao ownership at 2:55 (5 mins before planet switching would have occurred). This would allow the reward script to properly reward the Liao players. At 3:36, I switched planet ownership back to Jade Falcon control.

We are examining the activities that happened and will be trying again tomorrow with a new set of Factions/Planets. Keep an eye on that CW Comstar Intercept forum!

CW is always NAM server... spin up oceanic as the CW server in my primetime then we will talk...

After having played for years with 260++ ping... i aint going back to it

CW sux so much that you have to actually bribe people to play it.

PGI could massively drop the rewards on the public queues instead. :o

look at some of the ranking rewards. they are pretty much already bribing people to play it, more bribes are always welcome though.

if you want to put an end to pug farming then you need to incentivize unit on unit play. this will encourage pugs to join units and units to fight each other rather than stomping pugs. pugs will have a better play experience because they would no longer be easy money (this in turn causes them to stick around and potentially join units).

Yes... messaging was quiet and short notice.. but this is kind of the feeling we want to portray... that sneaky Primus guy is leaking stuff from the Faction Leaders which may or may not make you take notice....

That being said, yes we need to get more people taking notice of possible events so here are some steps you can do and also share with your friends:

We will look into better communications both in-client and on the forums.

In the mean time, this is something temporary and lets us learn and collect data. It also gives me the wonderful task of manually selecting/restricting planets at 3pm, 11pm and 6am. (yes.. I'm whining :P )

""Not a lot of Merik players went for it and the planet didn't turn."

Blahhhhh almost every house unit I have on my friends list who was online tried to help.

We don't have the people to field 12 man teams in the numbers needed to make up for the clan /is balance issue of pugs. For every match they won pugs already lost one. Of course not even counting how you have to fight on each square twice now.

Give us an IS v IS if the other side shows up we would win.

may be you had to fight 8 men teams to incorporate some pugs instead of full 12

clan pugs are better than is pugs because most of clan pugs are more experienced, most of players buy inner sphere tech as their first mech

i did participate in games that took back 4 nodes on ghost drops alone, that is on top of at least 3 actual victories. i only lost one game to a partial cl team, and only through a last minute gen rush (we outnumbered you but our leader kept disconnecting and people kept listening to the idiot who thought he could stop you at the gates).

i think this is more of a population issue i suppose.

Props for trying something with/for CW PGI/Paul. I actually like playing it, just never enough people on to get matches quickly enough, seems like too many buckets to me.

Hopefully this plus other changes can help actually grow the population enough for CW to be an actual working game mode.

Even though I still don't like CW, I think those comstar intercepts are neat.

These kinds of activities and developments for CW are an excellent idea, unfortunately the maps and gameplay/meta of CW isn't something I'm interested in I'm afraid.

Having said that, at least you're making a concerted effort to improve the experience and participation in CW.

I'm very glad this was the first post. Well said, I couldn't have put it any better.

Connecting in-game events with actual lore and "historical" events in Battletech is exactly what MWO needs more. Unfortunately, it doesn't really make a difference for CW right now, because the game modes and the maps are extremely dull. CW needs an element of strategy to be interesting, whereas now it's just zerg rushing through the gates to brawl and/or suicide attack the O-gens.

I didn't even know about this section of the forum, so thanks for the heads up.

Apart from the lack of warning, I think these sorts of events are a great idea...

I'm just miffed I didn't get to actually participate due to not knowing ;)

Make the NPE worse? Wonderful.

And people wonder why we have a small/niche playerbase....

The maker of the Great Mech Depression liking that... well, I guess the depression will continue indefinitely then.

Please don't shatter my entire perception of this game's economy. You will just have to accept that you are and always will be the chief scapegoat

p.s. Got the universe into a tube yet?
