Mauler Needs Ct Fix

So I've been playing all weekend trying to elite my Maulers and have some "fun"... trying to use all kinds of variations of builds but still dying ridiculously quickly. Either I really suck or something is off with its hitboxes. The center torso just gets pummeled and seems to soak up all the damage instead of spreading it to the STs and those great big arms. Maybe its the low torso twist but??

Banshee and King Crab... heck any other assault I play seems to spread the damage better.

I noticed some other posts to the same effect... anyone else experiencing this?

I'd like some feedback from more experienced players that have been doing well with the Mauler. Maybe its just because I'm pugging and not working with a team but I die faster in this mech than any other in recent memory. It doesn't really matter which loadout I use unless I "missile boat" with the MAL-1R and hang back.

I was hoping it could tank a bit better like an Atlas, King Crab, or Zeus which seem like much better mechs in the game than on paper.

Pretty much all assaults get pummeled too much in the CT. The Stalker is really the only assault I know of that has side torsos that actually take hits instead of the CT.

Being slow, with bad torso twist, and enormous hitboxes almost entirely negates having more armor. Thats the assault paradox.

And other mechs like the Awesome still have it way worse than the Mauler when it comes to being blasted in the CT.

Un-basic'd lack of torso twist glass cannon.

Everyone knows the Mauler can dish out damage, you see one you shoot it (a la Direwhale).

To make matters worse the "event" weekends are the worst to level mechs as everyone has their own "min/max" master'd mechs out and about.

I overall find Maulers to have a decent CT and tank decently when you max the armor.

Damage doesn't spread on it's own, you have to spread damage.


9/10 Mauler builds I come across are multi- AC 2 or AC 5 or UAC 5 builds, these builds tend to stare at enemies too long.


It's also a big mech, it's not particularly hard to aim for the CT - but really, most people aren't torso twisting enough in theirs.

The real issue is the insane level of TTK. Take any assault and expose it for longer than a half second and your near death or dead.

I don't see the point of playing assaults when you wait to launch into a game and more often than not your dead before 2:30. If your not fast your probably dead. Only fast movers have much of a chance now.

AC boats pay worst of all in this environment.

I can only agree with you based on my experience this weekend. I enjoy playing ballistics because its more challenging to aim them and lead your target etc & I like the satisfying "boom" noises :) But sadly the range and low weight of the clan lasers and multiple bundling of energy hardpoints makes it hard to compete with them and the IS wub machines.

The other thing that has changed a little is the map designers have really reduced visibility, so people are more successful scoring hits with lasers even when the target is obscured because you can scan the beam around until the reticle turns red. Happens alot of the bog map and new forest colony. Its tougher to do that with ballistics.
