I thought I would check out the new tutorial, but I literally failed on the first test (driving around the enclosed parking lot).

Mission was "Select Unmapped key" to do something, which apparently I have never needed or done in history of the game since it was unmapped.

Of course without completing that simple task (which apparently is something that cannot be done any other way), I was unable to progress.

Guess I don't get my participation award, or mech, or million c-bills, or whatever you get for completing the mechwarrior academy.

hahaha...you know you can go into settings and assign those keys, right...while in the tutorial?

But yeah, that was annoying.

Just map it in your keybindings in the settings do the tutorial. Profit. You can then unmap/bind it if you so desire.

I guess the assumption is that new players will have the default mapping so each key will already be assigned....and that if you're savvy enough to have re-mapped and un-mapped your keys, that you'd know how to re-bind them.

Actually there is some kind of strange behavior with alpha strike. Never bound it to a key since i have a weapon group for this. However, the tutorial demands the alpha strike key stroke - using a weapon group with all weapons won't do.

And when your F key line (F1-F12) etc is unresponsive make sure to check if you have not your FLOCK toggled on your keyboard (mines is next to F12). Basically its a toggle for locked F keys - or not.

I facepalmed so hard why i couldnt find out why F1 was unresponsive and why F9 in multiplayer games was not working anymore. It did worked before on PTS. Probaly pressed it by accident of taking screenshots.

Sometimes the solution is very simple!

You can play the tutorial as many times as you want as far as I am aware. I know I need to get gold I missed it by .02 seconds ...

My advice for that is to back up and get going at full speed before you cross the first marker that starts the timer. For whatever reason they start you on some uneven ground that slows you down and you are only doing 40-50 by the time you start.

I didn't realize there was an actual test at the end.
I though was going to (not) get rewarded just for showing up.

You can also go back and do it with different mechs, for example something faster than that Thunderbolt.

Wait, you can lose the CBills reward permanently if you fail the Tutorial?

I went in and quickly mapped them and even though it showed unmapped, I was able to complete the goal. :D

Definitely go back in and grab one of the light mechs on the right. They are up on a platform where the Citadel is. Pretty easy to complete the speed trial then.

I also had to hit escape and remap a key to complete the tutorial.

Or just finish it...then when in the academy, hop into the ember abd crush the gold time on the pilot challenge.

I especially liked the nipple clamps and spanking.

Oh, sorry. Wrong academy.

I hit that problem too. If you hit ESC you can go to your Options and temporarily assign a key there.

New players probably won't encounter it, because they probably won't have remapped their keys like we vets do.

BTW it is entirely possible to earn the driving course gold level in the stock Thunderbolt.

I have bound a key, but I can still not complete this objective. I alpha strike a light in the back, it dies, objective not ticked.
