With the importance of this game relying on team play, I find the lack of basic functionality with the tactical map irritating, and wish there was more.
The most simple and basic example I can provide that would help me out, is just being able to identify on the map which groups Alpha, Beta, Charlie are by being able to change the color. Sure I know where my Lance is... but the rest are 8 blue doritos.
I wouldn't imagine that it'd be too difficult to implement.
Anyone else have suggestions or thoughts about to make the battle map better or more functional?

More (useful) features are always good, but "almost worthless" is a huge exaggeration. I look at the map in every match. Checking where team mates are headed at the start, etc.
Don't over-dramatize if there are some features missing that you want to see.

I look at my maps constantly. i would like:
Ability to zoom
Configurable labels (my lance, my team, ID'D enemy, etc).
Ability to put it (and other HUD items) on screens in the cockpit, give them some use.

we need the ability to draw on the map
so we can draw attack plans on the map
but mostly so I can draw lewd things for my teammates to see

Red blooms where the most concentrated fire is or the last place a mech died or last point of detection; some kind of dynamic indicators that breathe life into the tactical map; the doriotes should be 1-12 or a- whatever based on order, and categorized by squad.
All markers need to be opaque.
I should be able to click a key and click my mouse on a targeted location to bring up a radial dial with basic directions that translate to compass HUD and map indicators.
The list goes on.

You see the map and where 8 blue doritos and your 4 yellow doritos are. Sometimes you see where the red ones are. You can pick up lance or team command and make markers on the map. That's pretty much it. In comparison with other games are capable of, I don't see where "Almost Worthless" is a dramatization, and feel free to share some ideas about "useful" features that might make the functionality of the map better.
