After an epic battle you have defeated your enemy and your warhorn proclaims your victory and echoes all around the battlefield.

But sadly because your warhorn is so loud and mounted inside your cockpit, you are now permanently deaf and stunned into unconciousness.

But should we be suprised considering we are also dealing with people that have mastered laser weaponry but cannot create a targetting computer that weighs less than three tonnes.

Warhorns? Oh, you mean those speakers playing House-specific jingles, the ones that sound kind of like corny .wav files from a Windows 95 Age of Empires theme.

Calling those ugly sounds warhorns is like giving mechs big #1 foam fingers and calling those "war trophies".

I thought the whole point of a warhorn was to be a bit intimidating, not to bring back memories of pressing random buttons on your Yamaha synthesizer in the 1980's.

I personally like them for the horrendous noises being forced onto those around me.

classic isobaric and cameron star horns are about as intimidating as they get, the others are pretty corny.. especially the screaming surrat. i always put that one (forgot how i got it) on my least favorite mech

that being said i would like a "leeroy jenkins " scream as a warhorn

Enlighten us how a warhorn should sound, since while we have some really stupid ones, some are as good as a warhorn can get.

Marik Warhorn is sufficiently intimidating and inspiring at the same time. Posted Image

Dont forget the Lunch truck one which is not bad either... however not on the War of the worlds level the Cameron/Isobaric ones are though... they still beat all others by a mile.

However one point the OP does mention really comes to mind.... Looking at where the Warhorns are mounted... If I were the pilot, Id do anything in my power not to get a kill during a battle... I mean you get one of those unlucky small laser rake over a random target with a cherry red torso kills and immediately that air raid siren (pressure chamber Warhorn) blows off af full volume half a meter away from your ears in a hermetically sealed metal box.... that is an immediate aural concussion in the making and a tinitus at the very least.

Straight from Sarna:

Targeting Computers are sophisticated pieces of electronics that, unlike normal targeting systems, physically help MechWarriors target their opponents. Recoil compensators and gyroscopic stabilizers are used to prevent normal weapon drift from factors such as recoil and movement while the computer accounts for atmospheric and other conditions to present an accurate "lead" on the target. This allows for more surgical precision of weapons fire, especially with naturally accurate systems, allowing for the user to hit specific parts on the target vehicle.

I love my Ghost Bear warhorn... if only it would have a bit more oomph to it.

I agree.
The best sounding Warhorns, Classic isobaric and Yardsale are just so bloody hideous... I wish i could HIDE the cockpit item itself and keep the sound only.

Some are good. Generally, the ones that sound like actual horns or are reminiscent of horns. As a rule of thumb, big robots are scarier and when they emit deep, powerful, echoing sounds, rather than high pitched noises or music.

Yardsale and Cameron are the best ones, I think. Clan Wolf is pretty good. I wish the Jade Falcon one sounded more like the MW2 intro and less like a parrot. Someone mentioned War of the Worlds. That's pretty much the gold standard, as far as I'm concerned. I don't quite remember which one is the Isobaric one, but I seem to remember that it's ok.

I hate those... "warhorns". I hate them... a burning hate!

What are those?

They came with the clans. I think when they wanted to include content for Clan Wave 1 (the disaster pack in terms of models, animation, balance... everything),They just came up with this rushed idea. They sold the pack mentioning warhorns as content... i doubt even they knew what warhorns are going to be when they announced it.

I wish I could exclude them from my purchases for a reduced price... but nope. Those are "Content"

It was Heavy Metal that gave them the idea of warhorns in the first place. Once people bought tons of Highlander Hero for the warhorn, PGI knew they struck gold.

intimidating?

I always thought it was to insult your enemy... I mean you play it *AFTER* the Kill, not before.

It is MWO's counterpart to teabagging, actually.

That should explain why it weighs so much.

Ever watch the remake of War of The Worlds with Tom Cruise? That sound the aliens broadcast all over the countryside? Yeah that one.. that is what a warhorn should sound like! :)

Warhorns should weigh half a ton, be externally mounted, and can be shot off.
