normally id be suggesting the 6xML version but that might be a bit hot for new players and overheating in a locust...

This !

Also, alternative LCT-1M

Here's my usual build.

LCT-1E 6SL / 13 DHS

Runs cold for a Locust, and still has respectable alpha and range. Not as punchy as a 6 SPL 1E, but you can keep stabbing with those 6SLs for about twice as long in return. Rather difficult to cause this one to overheat in moderate heat maps, almost impossible in cold maps, and still cools down in reasonable time on Terra Therma and Tourmaline. Extra arm armour to prevent lucky AC20 or gauss disarms.

DHS is in torso spaces to not lose too much cooling if an arm is blown off somehow. But alternatively, the crit-padded build:

LCT-1E 6SL / 13 DHS Crit-Padded

Usually I run a Jenner, but this one seems nice for a Locust.

3M - 1 Large Pulse Laser, 4 Small Laser, 1 AMS
LCT-3M

Invalid build, only has 7 heatsinks. Cannot launch.

Well, I am running the Locust 3M with 5 small pulse lasers and AMS for emergency.

LCT-3M

It might not have the best range but its -10% energy heat generation help alot on the 3M.

This build is to teach that discretion is the better part of valor. Designed to run around the legs of friendlies and provide spotting support. Twin TAG is a precaution against the loss of a limb. It doesn't get a lot of kills, but does get plenty of spot assist/protection bonus.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...34d4da70526131c

For more range, both small lasers can be swapped for a single medium, placed mid.

In all honesty - a Champion Mech is meant to be well optimised, and ready-to-go for new players, introducing them to a 'properly equipped' example of the mech.
This is a very specialised niche build, on an already difficult mech.

Because critique is for elsewhere:

The only way I run the LCT-3S.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ef22430f2a612d7

Armor is a security blanket; It only prolongs the suffering of those that fail to find cover or position poorly.
All glory to the SRM ammo, for it is heavy and inaccurate.

I don't think it's your job to criticize other people.

To me, there are only two locusts that could be considered champions: the 6spl 1e and the 1 lpl 1v. I won't add a smurfy link since both have been posted already. I think the 1e has an edge on the 1v because the 6spl build was popular (among locust pilots) before their were quirks and will probably be good no matter how it gets quirked. The 1v is good because of its megaquirks. It is a lot of fun to run, but if the quirks change it could very easily become obsolete.

This is a variant on Ovion's 1M build that sacrifices some raw punch for a bit of newbie-friendliness. I like streaks because they encourage target locking while being more forgiving of poor aim, and the longer burn time on the MLas also help with this. Also a bit more newb-friendly armor distribution (newbies will get shot in the back practicing hit-and-fade tactics) and a little more ammo round it out.

LCT-1M

Now this is kinda odd, I don't really have one, but below seems like solid overall.

2 ams and great overall quirks.

That's funny I was coming to link the same one, loved it in CW for a long time.

The only build you should throw on a Champion locust is 6 or 5 SPL build.

The exact specifics of this are immaterial. It just must be the SPL build.
It is the ideal way to locust, as far as I played them.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d4307fd2f1d0397

I don't feel we should be giving newbies builds that are intentionally gimped to cater to their newb'ness.
All that accomplishes is giving them a 'Mech that both we and they know is undergunned.

Slightly balancing it in favor of heat dissipation for a little bit of firepower, as that's something players might do in case they wanted to brawl more. That is why 5 or 6 SPL. That is the Champion locust build.

I know that the LCT-1E is the new hotness but the 3M remains my first love. I hit upon this build about a month after the Phoenix pack dropped and never looked back.

LCT-3M w/ 1 MPL, 4 SPL and XL 180 Engine.

The Original Wub-Bug

A slightly more "meta" (if that term can be applied to a lolcust) alternative would be to trade the MPL for an ML and bump the engine up to a 190, but I find that I prefer having the extra Firepower to that last ~8 kph of speed or so.

LCT-1E CHAMPION

I'm new to this game ( 1 week ). Following the hard points and rules I think the developers should add "Range Quirks" & "Armor Quirks" to this mech making it a damage burst type mech.

Also another Variant of the same build. LCT-3M
