So i just got the K2 and i built it with two ER PPCs and twin AC/2 and so far its rocking and loving it its like a medium ranged sniper and a close ranged brawler when it needs to be but maybe some thoughts on how to switch it up? and no guass options please im not terribly good with them and generally keep holding down the button to long #lead finger

It's been a while since I've run one, but I liked the 2ac10, 4 ml build.

Classically, a relatively small engine to fit in 2ac20 and a back up pair of small or med lasers was pretty powerful once upon a time. First mech build I ever ran where I got more kills than deaths!

I run pretty standard build for CW in my K2.

When I used my K2, I was using this configuration:

...But, I'm rethinking it because PGI shrank the CT hitbox, and an XL engine probably shortens a Catapult's life expectancy, now.

This was my initial K2 setup. It's OK, but I wasn't satisfied with my performance. Then I realized UACs have higher damage and less weight, so I switched to this. It's much better - I like the sustained DPS, the burst damage, the long range capability. What I don't like is how I lose weapons to crits even before ST is gone as a whole. Should I drop one LL, or downgrade to MPL, or whatever, and get more armor in the arms to use them for shielding? Would that work?
Should I get AMS to defend from LRM spam? LRMs do hurt this mech much more than any other other I've ran before (including KGC and DWF). I haven't played any AMS mechs yet so not sure how effective AMS is.

This is the K2 build I finally liked, did well with and used to elite the mech.

Here's the one I've been running. It's hot, grumpy, and timing can be an issue.
I've started calling it the Shockapult
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0f411fac3b66799
And here' one I plan on for Jester when I get around to buying it.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...fdc67ac33c3eabd
I've found my sweet spot for taking shots with the left, right, and arm pairs of ERPPC's and that takes a lot of playing but it's a lot of fun to play with. Also found that LRM boats are kind of a pain which is why in Jester I've gone with a smaller engine and double AMS.

Why bother with AMS? I Mean, your going to suicide yourself by overheating way before any LRMs do you in.

The B33F was using a 3 PPC jest some time ago

Although you dont like it, I got Dual Gauss in my K2 :P
Other Builds I tried:
2xUac5, 4 med lasers
2ac10, 4 Flamer
2xac20
2 ER PPC, 2 LL

For me, Gauss works best, once you get used to them, its a pretty neat weapon :)

ATM I am trying the already listed 2AC10+4ML build. It works... ok.
But what shot really big amounts of dmg war 2UAC+2ERLL, the ERLL in the ears. It is a waste not to use the Cats high mounted weapon points.

@ David: Don't ever reduce front armour in your torsos!
Better take legs and head.

I run a similar vanilla build from stock. 2 PPCs, 2 LLs and 2 MGs with an XL engine. I think XL275.

Great mid-support build. Don't brawl, hang back and use the PPCs to pick off the opponents. If fight gets closer, switch to LLs. Watch your distance and heat levels, that's it.

I´ve tried many configs, one I really like is AC10, dual PPC and 2 medium lasers. Shame PPC´s have that bad hitreg...
Actually I am trying with 2 ERLL in arms and 2 LPL in side torsi. The thing about K2 is using only as fire support, if you try to go solo you´re doomed.

What do you consider better, dual Gauss (with secondary ML) or single Gauss + 3 ERLL for a combined long range alphastrike?
I'm trying to get into handling Gauss rifles and will have to test both on the K2.

I bought a k2 yesterday, strapped a xl 290 in it with 2 ac5, 2 erll, 2 med pulse, and frankly its pretty legit as a fire support mech, it does run a bit hot but def not a bad mech

K2 is a fantastic mech which can bring to the field a build for every range bracket. From short to long:</p>
4mpl + 2lbx10
4ml + 2ac10, + 2uac5, + 2lbx10
2lpl + 2ac5, + 2uac5, + 2lbx10 , 2ppc + 2lbx10 (a little short on ammo and speed)
2large + 2ac5, + 2uac5, + 2ac10
3large + gauss (onesided)
2ppc + 2ac5, + 2uac5 (a bit tricky to use due to velocity desync)
2ppc + gauss
dual gauss + 2ml

I've run almost all of those and they all do very well. Most consistant damage - 2large + 2uac5, 2ppc + 2uac5, + 2lbx10. Most impact on the battle - probably dual gauss. For a while uacs were a must, but they got nerfed, so the choice it tough now :)
2erppc + 2ac2 sounds like a fun extreme range build, but a little short on dps at my taste.
Always bring XL, it's relatively safe for a small K2. Dont use arm mounts if you can fit enegry weapons in the torso. Arms come off VERY quickly and can be used as shields.
And i very much recommend to find your way into the gauss world. In light of latest stupid gauss nerf, K2 with its 20% velocity, 20% range remains one of the few gauss _snipers_ in the game.

4X ER LL has been working like a champ for me but it does work better with Jester.

2x uAC/5s, 4x ML, 300 XL, 14 DHS. 7 tons of ammo will keep it firing for quite a while. It's a bit more damage, and heat management than the LL version. The Catapult does fine with an XL engine.

Bought a K2 as 1 of 4 Mechs from the last sale that I had MXP stored on from Trial use years ago.
Running it with STD and 2PPC plus small backup weapons.
For some strange reason it is doing well though it never feels like it. Posted Image

ac10 and 4mpls with a std engine (80kph or so) has been working well enough for me.
