Well, the past week or so playing in the Warhammer has been frustrating as hell. I finally mastered it though...in the BW, I finally am able to attain damage levels I get in other mechs. Sneaking around and trying to get damage in though, has made me a much better player. I went to the Ebon Jaguar to finish mastering the Prime variant (The only one I kept) and holy hell...fighting it like a warhammer, and I am doing about 3 times the damage I ever did before.

That said, I remember as I started, I tended to load up on weapons that worked really well, and have a lot of one sided builds. For example, missile boats, laser boats, Ballistic boats..etc. Never much variation. As I progress as a player, I notice that I am mixing weapons more... for example,. most of my mechs have a short range series of weapons, medium range (usually an Autocannon) or 4) and a long range missile of some sort. Instead of carrying 10 tons of ammo for my missiles, I carry 3 or 4. I have learned instead of firing and forgetting, I only fire when I can see my target (even with LRMs ) and be sure that I am going to hit. My accuracy overall has jumped from about 40% to over 80% and a similar boost for missile accuracy.

My advice for new players is to play with all the weapons out there, don't get discouraged if you die a lot, and find the ones you like working with. For me, I prefer a big LRM launcher, SRM 6 (or 2...they are the best bang for the buck for short range damage) A few small lasers or small pulse lasers, a nice autocannon or 2 for medium range. I personally cannot get Gauss rifles to work well for me to save my life...and am just learning the PPC. Don't boat. Use a mix of weapons and learn how to use them together effectively. Every weapon has a drawback, the key to winning in this game is to balance your loadouts so that you can be effective in any situation. I no longer care what map I am on because by tailoring my weapon use, any mech I use will be effective there.

I think this is the reason I had so much trouble with the whammies... I had to learn to use a weapon I hated for long range...the PPC. Once I learned how to use it, I had much better luck with them. I still consider them sub par, but have a lot of fun in the black widow.

My last advice is to have fun. Don't get caught up in drama. Just focus on having fun whether you win or lose and everything else will come in time.

Well I loved the PPC all the time in MWO with the short exception when it was META, because it became Meta because people were not able to hit **** with this neat ball of blue lightning.

The interesting part of PPCs in the Warhammer - mount them in the arms is strange - with two AC5s in the torso - you would expect that at least one of both PPCs may be able to clear the obstacle - when the ACs hit the target.... but strange thing is....both PPCs shot hit the obstacle and the AC5s hit home.

Well i would not have mind it when the obstacle was to high and the barrel in the arms were not clear - but the ground was free and the obstacle was at best just shielding one barrel.
Anyhow i did mount the PPCs in the Torso.... strange feeling - but suddenly i did start to score kills again.

Pushing 30 points of hurt into a target and using the sturdy frame to take some beating is great....not as easy as going laser disco... but hey laser are for noobs that still have to learn to shoot properly.

I don't often show off my e-peen but when I do....

BW: 4mpl 2ac/10 kd 4.35
6R: 5spl, 2ppc, 2ml kd 3.46
6D: 4lpl kd 4.00

I do so because I love this mech. Posted Image

You can easily find a build to make it work and if you play it right it will bring you beautiful shiny things. It has for the time being overtaken my Blackjack as my favorite mech. The BW, asbolutely brilliant hero mech, top notch. Just for nostalgia I run 2ppcs in one build.. ..not like I used em in anything else Posted Image

Tata Cannons/PPCs is the way to go man. It might look like trash, but it works. The unfortunate realities of a FPS.

/shrug

My WHM-6R(S), is probably one of my best running mechs right now, she is constantly with the numbers she puts up, (around 500 damage, with 4 KMDD)... then again i went to it from having spent a lot of time in a Dragon, so I got used to twist, shoot and scoot. My Warhammer by the end of the match is missing both arms, and one ST, before etiher I am dead, or the match is over.

They are good mechs, you just can't pilot them like a Thunderbolt/Marauder/Timber Wolf, doing that, and you'll be in for a world of hurt.

Of course I'm also 90% the guy that shoot and scoot. The 10% are those moments when the other guy want to play peakaboo. And pops out of cover exactly at the same position as before. Really nice of him to wait until my peps are charged and the heat is acceptable.
I run the 6R equal but with Medium Laser althoug the small pulse have the merit that i would not use them beyond 90m.
One of my Beamer run a similar loadout so i was already familiar with.

But pleas try for your self - run the 6D with PPC and Large Laser in the arm - you may get the feeling that the Laser hit or clear an obstacle when the ppc wont.

Anyhow PPC and the good old 20 are my tools of trade ( works as Mini misery quiete Well

Well I don't bust out the MG's/SPL's/ASRM pack till I'm at around 100m from the target, at that point I switch to the close in, rapid fire, cooler weapons and smile as I rip off ST's and blow out CT's really fast.

That is also the build I've used to murder MLas / MPL 6D's in short order.

Very welcome, as I always say every mech as something to teach, and no mech is truly bad, just that the pilot might not be the right pilot for that mech.

Look, man. I tried to run with the PPCs in the arms. It's just not worth the risk of having to expose that much more of your mech to clear obstacles.

I was performing very poor in my Warhammers until I put an XL320 in all of them. Now its just bliss.

These are exactly my sentiments. Learning, then adjusting to the WHM style of play and now it's my favourite mech in MWO... and I'm so glad it is cos I was always a fan of the old WHM.
