So what do they mean exactly? Desceleration is supposed to be just the decrease in acceleration. So it should only apply when you slow down. And acceleration applies to both going forward and going back. Or is it applied the incorrect way and acceleration is for going forward and desceleration is going backwards?

acceleration is going faster and deceleration is going slower. You can of course accelerate to go backwards Posted Image

From 100% forward to 100% backwards: from 100% ahead you decelerate to 0 and then accelerate from 0 to 100% backwards.

acceleration means go faster,
if you are stopped and want to start moving or want to move faster, weather forwards or backwards, the speed you reach your new velocity is your acceleration rate.

deceleration means go slower,
if you are moving, weather forwards or backwards, and want to slow down or stop the speed at which you change your velocity is your deceleration rate.

the only possible room for confusion I can see there is if are moving forwards and want to start moving backwards or moving backwards and want to start moving fowards, ether way you need to decelerate until you stop moving then accelerate in the opposite direction.

the acceleration skill "Kinetic Burst" and the Deceleration skill "Hard Brake" provide a % increase to that acceleration/deceleration speed, and when you complete the Elite skills that % boost is doubled
