I was not getting this error, was just getting a grey box stating "Failed to initialize game". I ran the repair tool, reinstalled. Nothing worked.

I tried the fix on a whim and am now in. Sadly, almost out of time to play for a while at this point. :)

Win 10, Nvidia NVS 4200M video card.

Hey Bubba Dank,

Try pyrocomp's suggestion of creating the file if it does not exist:

View Postpyrocomp, on 16 February 2016 - 06:19 PM, said:

Might be created on the first lunch. Create it.
Put this inside:

; DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE!
r_DXVersion="DX9"
d3d9_TripleBuffering=0
r_txaa=0
r_msaa=0
r_postaa=1

Save and run.

After reinstalling, there is no game.cfg file in said folder. Also doesnt get created when launching, so I am still getting the same error.

Win 10 Pro, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

Any suggestions?

Sorry this didn't work for you Zohan. Our team is still working on a permanent fix for this problem that we are hoping we can release soon

Worked for me, except one small thing I noticed;
the r_postaa was 0 instead of 1 before the change. Should I keep it as such with the zero? Again, still works, regardless of that number change.

PostAA is a video setting you can change through the options menu. This variable just controls whether it's on or off, so it doesn't really matter what it is for this particular problem. If your not sure, it's safe to just leave it as its previous value.

Nevermind, I recreated the file in notepad ++, works fine now and I can log in. Mistake on my part, as I am no IT wiz.
Sorry for all the inconvenience, now on to test out the rifleman. Thanks to you and especially to @ pyrocomp

I now have the same problem. I did a reinstall of the game and no game.cfg file.

I was getting DXGI_error_device_removed after last patch.

I had an issue with the patch as well. Running a GTX960. The workaround seems to have fixed it.

Create game.cfg manually. It's contents are listed at previous page.

Try changing in-game video settings. Might be that postaa or any other option is haywired at the moment.

What's in your game.cfg (to recreate issue)? Have you sent a mail to the support?

  • If you still receive a D3D error, send an e-mail to technical@mwomercs.com and summarize the issue in your e-mail, including the steps you've taken to attempt a resolution.

Workaround does not work. Currently I have nVidia GTS 250 running latest drivers and Win10. All working great until this update.
