Locust. First chassis I ever owned. My favorite used to be the 3M. I rocked in that thing with 5 medium lasers. Then the 1E came out. I clung to my 3M for a little while longer simply for nostalgia before I finally conceded that anything my 5M could do the 1E could do better and sold my old 5M for a 1E.

1 - Urbie - AC/20 build: It's a personal challenge for me to get all 21 shots on target. Edging over a hill and thumping someone with a cannon shell bigger than my 'Mech is a joy. It suffers from having an easily-shot off main gun arm and severe ammo limits, which is why most people run dual LPL instead. I drop the jump jets and small laser with some regret to keep the walking canon well fed and armored.

2 - Kitfox - The kit fox is an easily overlooked support monster. With ECM and triple ams it's given me the highest win/loss ratio of any light, while packing exactly as many clan er medium lasers as you can expect to use without running afoul of the ****** heat system.

3 - Locust - especially the missile locust with 4xsrm4s. It's a little walking claymore mine. It's terrible. I love it.

4 - Commando - The ecm commando's a fun 'Mech in a dog fight, and the 1B's a solid little knife fighter. They have good hitboxes and survive well for their weight class while remaining largely overlooked. Losing your arms can be frustrating, but oh well.

5 - Jenners - Standard and more recently the IIC Jenners are both nice 'Mechs that do everything a light should do on paper. In practice I don't find the Jenner to be fast enough to pull off back stabs with no ECM and it's CT is simply too massive a target. Still, it runs well in a group as a light destroyer with erML, or as a claymore with SRMs.

A - The absolute bane of my existence when piloting light 'Mechs is the magical loss of momentum and control every time my feet leave the ground. I'll hit a tiny bump and go from 130 kph to 70 kph, or be turning and ramp up on a hill or little rock and be stuck there, vibrating up and down, unable to reorient my legs. It's a dumb design choice and I hate it.

My favorite's the Wolfhound. STD engines, MLs, and ambush tactics. There's nothing like harassing assaults in it.

I'll always love my spiders but since they refuse to bless us with the same kind of hard point inflation that they gave all of the newer mechs, my vote goes to wolfhound.

I've mastered every light variant in the game (yes, including all five MLXs). My all-time fave is the JR7-F. Currently, though, for pure fun, I run a LCT-1E with either 5ML or 6SPL (I have two). The WLF-2 is a close second.

Is: Wolfhound
Made to hunt down Panthers ( one of my other favorite IS lights). And VERY underrated! Sure it dosent got jump jets. But it got very good thoughness with an standard engine and enough speed and agility.

It got great convergence possibilities with all those torso hardpoints and some even got 2 (I think) hardpoints on right arm to make them useful at countering faster opponents. As said it got excellent hardpoints, great hitboxes and good firepower.
Sure it gets faster and with more firepower with an XL, but why not exploit its strenghts to the max? Each to its own.

Only downsides are no JJ for most as it seems ( I dont care). I on the other hand miss ballistics and even missile hardpoints on the Wolvies, I would surely buy one or two if PGI could come up with their own P versions, just for that Posted Image

Clan: Kit Fox/ Uller (it surely would rather be the Cougar if it was in the game). Named after some kind of fox and Norse god (Ull) this thing is a badass little thingy.

It can be an excellent support mech for bigger fellas and have a decent hitbox, hardpoints layout and with enough stopping power to hit and run off. Or go nuts into the fight alongside buddies.
On its own, its kinda vurnerable. Not a scout mech IMO.

Honrable seconds. Raven and Jenner IIc

1) urbie- cause...urbie
2) Locust- cause they're walking death traps if you happen to blink at the wrong time.
3) jenner- esp oxide- I liked it even before it became the tiny missile boat of doom
4) commando- cause that's the only other one I have full mastered

don't own anything clan.

I love the Urbie (seriously!), especially the R60 with 2 LL and 4 MGs.

Also love my Locusts.

I've let this topic role around in my head for the last half hour, and must conclude that I just can't answer it. I love em all. Love the rush of Locusts and Spiders. The firepower of Wolfhounds. The diversity of Panthers and Ravens. etc. Just love lights.

Sure when ya have a lot of bad matches in them. Die a lot. But when you have a good match it feels spectacularly so.
When you have a great match?...it is what keeps you playing even when you feel like the rest of the game is in the toilet.

Yeah pretty much. As with Assaults. Sure you get easier kills than lights, but ohoy the speed and agility of those things is dreadful. Oh and an encounter with said lights, 3 of them and a ghost.. which appeard to be a 4th light. Easiest classes gotta be the mediums and heavies. Spot on but do you want more speed or firepower? Yeah, satisfying victories may be far between.

For me it's the WLF-2. Which in Honor of Phalen Kell, I dubbed "Grinner" it's fast. packs a good punch, and ironically, is mostly ignored. I've slaughtered mech's much heavier then me in open one on one fighting because the Wolfhound is fast enough to stay in most mech's blind spots. add a high reactor and elite it and it not only almost never over heats unless your dumb about shooting, and can nearly stop on a dime.

Mist Lynx.

1: It has pretty good hitboxes despite some uninformed opinions about arms being too large.
2: It has pretty good durability quirks.
3: Because it's one of the mechs with better jumping ability giving it great vertical mobility.
4: Because 4cSPL rock, and while 6 have higher alpha they don't have much better dps (heat accounted for)

Panthers, because guns, poking with those guns, and that awesome look. 8Z with 2LPL (25% cooldown and duration, plus 10% range!), 9R with 3LL (heatgen!), 10K with 2PPC (velocity and heat!) makes for a lot of fun. I run a spammy AC10 on the 10P, which is ... amusing enough to work.

Amusingly, Wolfhounds are second right now for me. WLF-1 with 5MPL (range quirk), 1A with 6ML (duration), 1B with 2LPL and XL280 (cooldown), and WLF-2 with 3LL. The green laser builds are killer, the 2LPL speed-sneak-trades amusingly well (peek-a-boo, I'm farming you), and 3LL is straight meta.

The fact that I can mount all the big guns on the torso (edit: in the Wolfhound) means that I can save weight by stripping the arms, and that plus the lack of JJs means that I pack a bigger enging than I typically would/could in a comparable Raven/Firestarter/Jenner.

Both have great geo and hitboxes. They're awfully fun :)

Anyone remember when bringing a light without jumpjets into FW was frowned upon because gate jump light rushes were so popular? God I'm glad that's no longer a thing anymore. So happy that I'm not limited to jumpjet capable lights for FW play anymore. Because of this, I bring my Wolfhound with 6 medium lasers into FW now and it is by far one of, if not THE best performing light that I own. I love all of them though.

Should be interesting to see how the meta for the new scouting mode develops.

Calling it now: Clanners dropping in 4 Timbers (why not?) :P

IS: I'm going to cheat and say Cicada. But I really like Wolfhounds too. They are incredibly tanky with STD engines, and I have consistently good luck with them. I generally run them with STD-210 and relatively heavy armament, and run them as "light mediums". Although the route of using a big STD engine and both speed and tankability for protection appeals too.

Clan: Kit Fox. I love these little utility mechs. I've been running them as ECM+AMS missile umbrellas, as ECM+NARC scouts, and as light LRM platforms, and they always perform well for me.

I wish I felt as you do regarding the kitfox but I don't. The Kitfox is the only mech I have taken to master and I regret making the investment of time and money. I remember playing the kitfox many years ago in MW2 so I immediately bought it and the variants when I came to MWO. I even have the KFX-C so I can play the same role as you described (Minus the rockets) and get the omni-pod bonus (which is nice). Even after "speed tweak" your top speed is only 104 mph? There are mediums that out-run me (Blackjack, Shadowcat, etc) and it just seems like the Kitfox needs more firepower. I don't consider myself a expert at this game so I certainly accept part of the responsibility that maybe I'm just not a very good player?

I also bought the Timberwolf (Again, nostalgia reasons) and I'm very disappointed in that one. I'm getting ready to make another purchase so I need to make the right decision this next time.

IS: Jenner- I started playing the game in a Jenner, and bought Sarah's mech when that came out, so jenners have always had a special place in my heart.

Clan: Couger- 35 ton mean machine! I guess the adder would be the closest thing to this right now, but I loved this mech back in MW4, it carried a crazy firepower for a light.
