Typing out a really long reply to a topic, only to find out the forums decided to automatically log me out, and not being able to salvage what I wrote.

For this reason I've been making it a habit to ctrl+c my words before attempting to post them, but sometimes (for whatever reason) I'll forget.

I can't think of any other forum that has this happen with such frequency that I'm practically required to make a backup of each reply prior to posting, or having to use an external text editor to ensure some RNGesus automatic logout "feature" doesn't screw me over.

I feel like I've hit my breaking point with this. I've had one too many topics/replies lost.

Anybody else experience this on a way too common basis?

By today's standards, it's a pretty crappy forum.

But then, that makes sense. PGI would rather use Twitter and Instagram.

Been there OP, it is frustrating. If I type a longer reply, I try to remember to copy it before clicking submit. That way I still have the message if the forum decides to do it's log out shenanigans.

Happens to me all the time.

Luckily I remember to Copy all of it sometimes when I know it's acting up, so that I can just paste it when I log back in.

I always type my long forum posts in Microsoft Word, then copy and paste it over to the forum. That way I don't have to worry about losing my posts from random log outs.

Seriously though, if you do have something important to say at length, like these other folks have suggested, type it up in a Word program or at least Note Pad.

What bothers me even more is that for some reason, using this website and only this website, sometimes it moves the placement of the type bar mid keystroke. So you'll type a bit, make a mistake, and go to delete it, only to delete something halfway through your message instead of at the end. Bothersome.

Reverse the order. Type it out in a .txt file or your favorite word processor program/app and when you're finished copy and paste it onto your Forum post. Never fails and you'll always have a copy, which is great since Forum Search goes back only 1 year even for your own posts and topics.
