Hi all,

I recently started MWO and i would say im pretty average at the game.

I have saved up 12.7 million credits and would like to purchase a medium mech.

Could anyone give me a breakdown of a decent chasis and weapon loadout?

Thanks in advance.

Huge question. Can you tell us what you've played so far and what you have enjoyed/not enjoyed?

Clan: Storm Crow is basically THE way to go for a medium, especially for your first medium unless you just REALLY want jump jets. The Crow is just a good versatile mech. If you want JJs then the Shadow Cat or Nova are your options. Shadow Cat has ECm available as well. The Nova is generally known for being oversized, but the resize going on will probably help that greatly; it can pack a hell of a load out for a medium if you can handle the heat though.

IS: If you are moving up from lights, then the Cicada is good and acts like a light with more armor and room for firepower. Crabs are hard to argue against unless you just don't like energy boats. Black jacks and Hunchbacks are both pretty good as well. As a IS medium missile platform the Trebuchet is decent. if you are looking for a good IS medium to go hunt people with in Faction scouting then the Griffin seems to be a popular choice.

breakdown of medium Mechs,
Inner Sphere

Cicada,
40 ton, handles like a Light, can move realy fast, lightly armed and armored, mostly lasers but 2 varients can use balistics and one can use missiles, one varient has ECM.

Blackjack
45 ton, high mounted weapons, most varients have balistics and lasers.

Vindicator,
45 ton,not very popular, lasers and missiles, can jump

Trebuchet
50 ton, missiles and lasers,

Centurian,
50 ton, most variants have ballistics, lasers and missiles, fairly durable, has a "sheild arm" which can absorb a lot of punishment, cheep to outfit.

Hunchback,
50 ton, possibly the best starter Mech, each variant has a completely different set of hard points, many different roles on a single chassis, most of your weapons are in the Hunch, it will teach torso twisting an extremely valuable skill, cheep to outfit.

Enforcer,
50 ton, lasers and balistics, many have jumpjets, XL freindly

Crab
50 ton, lasers only, realy durable, XL freindly

Kintaro,
55 ton, lasers missiles.

Shadow Hawk,
55 ton, Jumpjets, most varients have lasers balistics and missiles, less agile than the other 55 toners

Griffin,
55 ton,, Jumpjets ,ECM varient, missiles and lasers, great torso twist, great brawler

Wolverine,
55 ton, most varients have lasers and missiles, 1 also has balistics, 1 is a pure energy boat, 1 has Jumpjets.

Clan

Hunchback IIC
50 ton, variaty of possible builds, not as durable as the IS Hunchie but more heavily armed

Omnimechs (can change hardpoints but engine, heatsink type, structure type and armour type are fixed
Ice Ferret,
45 ton, fast but lightly armed

Shadow Cat,
45 ton, ECM available on any variant, fixed Jumpjets, MASC (speed and agility boost but over use it and suffer leg damage) max of 3 lasers but upto 7 B hardpoints, limited available tonage, fast especially with MASC.

Nova,
50 ton, fixed Jumpjets, wide variety of hardpoints, up-to 14 lasers, not especially fast

Stormcrow,
55 ton, most versatile Medium Mechs, excellent hitboxes, reasonably fast, wide variety of available hardpoints

You want good mechs for an intermediate difficulty level?

Alright. I'm gonna let you explore weapons on your own, but I'll give you some chassis with a little breakdown and if applicable, a special armor layout.
Clans:
Hunchback IIC: Definitely high on forward armor. This is like a Hunchback for the Clanside, however it has a hunch on both sides. Great weapons platform, easy to get into, and it has room for the player to evolve as its performance can almost double once you learn how to control the arms independently.
Nova: Do for a rescale which will help improve its survival. The weapons are low slung but not too low-slung. Keep in mind that weapons are hot and this can really pack them in. Its use is greatly improved if you can get it on rooftops.

Shadow Cat has a learning curve but is ideal for the ranged player.

Inner Sphere:
Cheap to-start ones variants:
Centurion, particularly the CN9-AL. Tanky, lack of ballistics means you can get away with standard engines making it live longer than most Centurion builds could.
Enforcer, 5P. For ballistic lovers. Channel no more than 8 armor to the back.
Shadowhawk, particularly the 5M. Bigger Centurion with a Hunchback-like shoulder gun.
Griffin, the 3M. Best missile setup of the Griffins.
Wolverine, the 7K. Already one of the best variants.
Kintaro, the KTO-20 (ditch Ferro, get Endo in the upgrades panel). Is the worst Kintaro variant and ends up feeling like a Centurion, but this just makes the other Kintaros in your future that much better.

They may have higher pricetags at the door, but these pack the XL engines (which themselves are worth as much or more than the mechs) and the double heatsinks tax already gone.

Welp, easy mode mechs are:
Clans: Stormcrow Omnimech. 2 armor rear for all torsos. You now have Godmode and a mech that will ruin the game for you by not letting you learn most of the good habits to make every mech survivable.

IS: Hunchback, right rear torso armor between 2 and 8. Center rear torso between 8 and 12. Left rear torso unconditionally at 12 or higher.
Crab. 2-6 armor rear, all else front. Best with standard engines unless you pack 'em with a huge XL engine, in which case the speed will make up for the fragility.

I ran it similarly but with less JJ and 2ML in the CT. It's fun. The A is the pick of HBK-IICs, but not the only one that's fun.
