I was browsing YouTube earlier for new gameplay footage, when I see this video about beta keys. I think "Huh, probably a sham." so i watch and then I look in the comments to see all possitive comments about this "Key Generator" working! I am of course tempted to try it out but no, i dropped $120 on this game i am not risking it by getting a cracked key.

I just thought you Devs might want a heads up that people are in there that shouldn't be there. And don't look at Paul I doubt he had anything to do with it (unintentionally may have kicked that server a little TOO hard).

Not promoting the use of the generator and dont want anyone using it to cheat the system, but for the Devs:

Hope you guys do something about this outrage against those who have been patiently waiting!

Edited linked. The scam is known, it does not allow individuals into BETA. Thanks for the headsup tho.

In the future try messaging a moderator or Community manager rather than post it publicly

You ever wonder why they don't show them playing beta in the same vid? Its cause they are fake keyloggers.

Seems pretty obvious doesn't it? I hope the OP (or a moderator) edits the link out of that post or deletes this whole thread. I'd hate for some gullible fool to get his **** hacked for attempting to cheat his way into BETA.

Various vids like this have been on youtube for the past month or two. PGI is well aware of them based on the other threads about beta key fraud. There is always going to be garbage like this around.

I don't know. Call me a sap but I take pity on the ignorant fools that get taken advantage of in scams like this. Yes, I understand that (in this particular case) the individual is attempting to do something illegal and you could make the "You reap what you sow." argument. But I'd rather educate those poor fools before they find themselves graduates of the school of hard knocks.

I can see them being "lenient" (probably spelled that wrong... let this "slide") on the beta (some what)
but when it launches.. i really hope they CRACK DOWN on these hackers...
I DO NOT want someone getting in game money for free and crap..
its a free to play yes.. and its not pay to win...
but I really don't want someone "stealing" from MWO by getting free monies....

but isn't that one of the best ways to learn?? lol
learn by doing...
at least maybe someones smart enough (if they really wanted to) to use a virtual machine or something so their crap doesn't get screwed...

not saying everyone should rush out and do this (no sarcasm)
because I think you should just get in line and wait like the rest of us..

For some things... sure. For everything? Hell no. This is especially true for "What not to do" scenarios.

The easy example is the "Fire is hot" lesson that all children learn some way or another... but a good parent isn't going to just say "Oh well... Sally needs to learn that the stove is not something to play with." and let their kid get burned.

People still fall for this kinda stuff? You'll get something alright, but it ain't gonna be no Beta Key.

well.. earlier posts in this same topic is their fair warning.. if they still go for it and have to format and reinstall windows, or take whatever action to protect their money/credit because they got caught in fraud.. then i'm sorry for them.. but I bet they wont try to cheat the system again after that..

'Eh. I have sympathy for almost everyone. The punishment should always fit the crime. You cheated? Banned from the server/game/whatever. But I don't think the spread of malware, keyloggers, or whatever else is appropriate. I'm not going to praise the uploader of that video for giving would-be cheaters "what they deserve".

no, nobody "deserves" to have any of that done to them.. but they shouldn't try to "cut in line" when its all fair game and random who does/doesn't get in to the "beta"..

it sucks to be pending but thats just what we'll have to deal with until the 7th...

up until then..
forever pending..

Sure they do, what you call "cut the line" I call "stealing access".

@Arafinar this is true.. but if they don't have enough patience to wait less than a month now.. then they'll probably never learn.. even if it is a scam.. I don't wish harm upon anyone.. but what happens to them... happens to them... for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction... they try to cheat the system.. bad things will happen to them...

Have you never seen a Youtube scammers before? There's millions of bolony videos like this. They are bottomfeeders looking to desperately leech off the gutter of whatever community they can. As a guy previously said, notice how they don't actually show game footage to prove that it works.(If it worked, and it allowed them access, then why are they unable to show game footage?) You should also notice that you can't comment on the videos like these. If you try, it'll either pend approval which will never come, or the video will say comments are disabled. They do this so that they can show only positive comments from their fake profiles to make it "look" legitimate and prevent negative comments from exposing it as BS. It isn't hard to have more than 1 Youtube profile. So scammers usually have rows of them that they use to falsely praise their own BS so that it looks like it has positive comments. More often than not they are blank profiles.

Why do they do all this? Well normally they link you to some BS site that will waste your time with surveys. That's the entire point. They are paid to bait in idiots for surveys. Those idiots also give out Email addresses which they can then throw spam at. Some of them might even give credit card numbers for BS deals. But simply put, any website that wants you to fill out a survey to access something is just wasting your time. They are all scammers. No legitimate website will ever force you to fill out a survey. There are no surveys on a forum. There are no surveys on fileplanet. There are no surveys on Youtube itself. Get it?
