First off, what I see quite often is that a team doesn't realize that it should be as one. That each mech is a component of a whole chess piece. Therefore your efforts are focused between one another, allowing you more power to achieve your goal.
Your assaults are the head of the team. You should always have your formation directed around the assaults. Every time an order is given, It is mainly directed at the assault lance. If the assault lance is correctly directed, and has the support of the team, then you will achieve a fighting unit that can move from point A to point B in a perfect manner.
You need to analyze the situation repeatedly throughout the match. Think about where your team is; and think about what your tactical options are. You may find yourself in a good defensive position on the map, therefore you would fortify it and wait for the enemy to come crashing into your firing line. Or you find that you are approaching an enemy firing line and realize that going straight in may not be the best option. Perhaps you should evaluate the right and left of the enemy's flank. If you can find an opening, that is where you should funnel your troops.
This is a war room type of thread, not a place for you to complain about the game. Throw out some useful info that can be used to evolve Mechwarrior tactics.
