I've recently pledged loyalty to House Steiner, but due to life and family, don't have a regular schedule for play. Am I better off playing as a non-unit pilot, or should I look for a unit?

Thanks in advance for any and all input!

I would say most units are welcoming to casual players. So your schedule shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you're willing to adhere to their standards whenever you do have time to play.

And a follow-up to Bjorn - Most "standards" in your average unit are standards on conduct. Basically, don't be a jerk, don't cheat, be willing to learn, and always play your hardest. Anyone is trainable and most units understand this.

Pretty much what Valar said. DSA operates like this. We don't turn away anyone, but we expect everyone to play nice, be helpful, not rant, not blame other unit members for a loss or their death. "I am over here, help me, help me".... "I'm dead you team mates suck!" ("Over here" was 1 k away from the team......)
