Since the forum search seems to be non-functional at the moment:

I noticed that I cannot equip the Clan Advanced Sensor package equipment to any Warhawk variant at all, even if I completely empty the loadout.

The equipment tooltip states that I do not have enough slots available.

This seems to be a bug to me.

It's no bug. The Advance Sensor Pack can only be placed in the head. In this case, the WarHawk cockpit slot. Which is already taken by a ferro-fibrous/endo steel critical space.

There must be a empty slot in the head only. No where else. So this is not a bug. The same goes for the Inner Sphere.

I believe that the new Advanced Sensor Package item is based on the retired Command Console equipment.

The old CC had to be placed in the Head section of IS heavy and assault 'Mechs. I guess that the new equipment has partially inherited this condition.

Other than that, it works on 'Mechs that have at least one empty slot in the Head section, so you can place it in the Head section of for example Daishi without problem.
