There has been quite a bit of anger over the decal system. I guess it is not a surprise that gamers were quick to abuse the new system. There is also no surprise that some feel that the silly decals ruin the immersion for them if they have to see them in game.
One of the great features of this game is the amount of freedom that is given to the players in the ability to customize their Mech. Unfortunately, it also become one of the biggest problems when player push everything to the limits. Some restrictions are good for the game.
The decal system needs some restrictions. Two such restrictions are:
1. Limit the locations where a decal may be placed. For example, making the crotch area of the Mech, both front and rear, off limits would eliminate some problems that have already cropped up.
2. Limit the size of certain decals to about a meter or two in game. That would be more in keeping with the type of decals that soldiers typically put on war machines. Perhaps this would make sense for all the non-unit decals.
I personally think the decal system is nice although it was not something I even thought about before it was mentioned at a Town Hall. If a Clan Hell's Horses decal is made then I will buy it. I do not care what people put on their own Mechs but for those that do, the above suggestions may solve many of the complaints if an "OFF" switch is not an option.
