I'll just write this here, because I don't know where else to put it. I just want to write some honest, constructive, civil feedback about the state of the community, and that sort of stuff doesn't seem to have its own place on the forum.

Long version

Spoiler

TL;DR version!
  • One major reason why the community (especially on the MWO forums) is so disgruntled is the lack of communication and lack of information about future content.
  • A lot of people feel like PGI is investing less in MWO and that things are slowing down. This makes the players hesitant to invest more money.
  • The community needs a community manager that regularly interact with players on the official forums.
  • In order to give the players faith in future content, we need more information. These short roadmaps about future mechs and small updates aren't enough. We need to know more about the big features, like PVE, Solaris, Infotech, Skill trees, etc. Give us something to keep faith in the game, give us something to talk about besides mech packs and small fixes here and there. Give us something to look forward to.

"Wanna buy a mech pack?" as joke this is where the community is right now.

Otherwise good write up. I share your feeling about the gloomyness of the (forum) community.
I also noticed some real drastic changes in gaming quality in parallel to the bitterness of the (forum) community.

ALL these god damn LRM boats in my matches and ALWAYS one guy dying in the first 60sec (or 90sec on large maps). This makes me personally feel that MWO is going south.

I have also mentioned several times in other threads that a "community manager" with only 429 posts (right now) is no community manager. I want a community manager to write at least 10 posts per day to give the community a feeling of being seriously considered.

And NO twitter is no damn community managing tool, a forum is...
it was for a long time and might also still be for some time.

BTW:
Wanna buy a mech pack?

The state of the community: 150 people complain and argue bitterly on the forum, while everyone else happily buys mech packs to play on cold skirmish matches.

We have too little information.

Are you saying that the MWO forums have more Information Warfare than the game itself? :D

Ya, this pretty much sums up my way of thinking.

Its hard to invest money into the game when I have no idea where its going to be in 6 months. Im not even sure if they know where the game is going to be in 6 months.

Dont get me wrong, new mechs and maps are nice, but I am more concerned with bigger things. Like your list that has PvE, and Skill Trees, ect.

Why would I want to pay these people just to make new maps that I can play even more Team Death Match on?

I dont feel it is worth paying money to just keep getting the same thing with new colors.

That didn't work, did it.

I really can't wait for the stupid tournament to be over. So many resources spent on this. So many good players out of the normal player circulation pool.

My prediction:
When the tournament is over then many good players are going to leave because of burnout.
Why burnout? Because the stupid rules with only 12 man no substitutes FORCE players to play the game and this it grounds for hating it when you achieved your "goal".

Ultimately, communication is key. There are numerous examples of game developers who frequently make mistakes during development or suffer through difficult development periods who are nonetheless able to keep their player base engaged and amiable. The ones that can succeed at placating a disgruntled community and move forward with the blessing of that same community are the ones that can foster constructive dialog with the player base and, ultimately, control the tone and direction of that dialog.

If you let a disgruntled community run wild, you'll find yourselves with an adversarial relationship with them.

So yeah... we need constant 2-way feedback. Posts on Instagram more than once a year. State-of-game every month. Constant surveys, polls, etc. A dev should be engaging us DAILY, and providing a conduit of dev/player communication should be that person or group's only job.

The burnout will be real after this tournament, I already see it within my own unit, including myself, and we are only halfway through with the qualifiers.

Honestly if they introduced new weapons I would be more ok with the current state of things if only for new toys to play with an potentially add depth, but considering we still have dumb-fire SRMs, I doubt they would be all that interesting sadly. New maps especially ones with repair bays would be wonderful to see added (seriously, wtb new not crappy maps).

That's a fair general appraisal of the situation. I'm sure everyone has their own personal likes and dislikes that vary from what you have written, but as a general comment on how things are, it's about as accurate as your going to get.

This is like a pyramid scheme, eventually it bursts out in the face of those who invest the latest.
And I have feeling most have left already so, this is a bad time to invest.

PGI catered to COD likes who apparently represent the largest market share, but they were not he ones who were going to carry this game to he future. Wrong move PGI.

The real reason for the gloom: the easiest low hanging fruit has been left to rot on the tree every month. Fruit that requires 5 seconds of work in a database to adjust. Stuff that was supposed to be 'slow and incremental changes' like:

1. PPC are useless unless they have 40%+ velocity quirks. BOOST PPC SPEED FFS
2. LBX's are not very good at all. INCREASE LBX Damage to 1.1. Next month to 1.2 until desired effect is achieved
3. Machine guns were made worthless when damage was reduced to 0.8. INCREASE DAMAGE TO 0.9, then to 1.0 until desired effect is achieved.
4. Jump jets on anything other than a light or a medium are an absolute waste. Slowly and incrementally buff JJ's every month until they find a good place

Continuing to IGNORE these basic gameplay items leads the community to believe they are IGNORING the game. It's not complicated to boost these values each month and see what happens.

Antares, I agree on the burnout issue as well.

The game will be characteristically different after the tournamment because they will be on a static server while the main server gets GH2.0...

Yes this is another issue why people will be worn out when the tournament is over.
Because the Tournament server and Live server have diverted so much from each others gameplay that it is hard to actually train for the tournament. So the last remainign teams have to constantly play TWO totally different games at once. Most obvious example is KDK-3. Still killer on Tournament server and Meh on live server.

My short summary.
Some are so salty and jaded that they are beyond saving, some are so blindly devoted to mwo its actually scary. And then..
Then theres the open minded, constructive gray guards trying to keep a clear head and make sense of it all Posted Image

And yay! Skilltree! Cant be worse than what we got (good grief the grinding). BUT I will stay carefully optimistic Posted Image

Do you remember Minimapocalypse? Not so long ago... worst f*ckup of the game I've seen.
It can always get worse...

well, I don't want repair bays anymore than I want respawns...but otherwise largely agree.

Stupid tournament has more bloat than the NBA playoffs, and that has to be the most interminable, non momentum keeping tournament in sports.

YES !! Me too.. a gamemode with true respawns which would drastically increase playtime especially for newcomers because after they die with their first personal mech they dont have to wait for 15 min to play again with it.
And if you dont like respawn just do play other game modes. But all those respawn haters you'll see. Sitting more time in a cockpit is much more fun than watching spinning wheels going round and round and round....
