Okay, from what I see, the energy draw systems' goals were:

1 To increase TTK through limiting of alpha strikes.
2 To provide an alternative to the kinda silly ghost heat mechanic.

The new system does not discourage alpha strikes. Rather it encourages them. Given how the energy bar limits firing, its best to hit with everything you have then wait for the energy bar to come back.

The system does provide a more sensible solution than ghost heat.

Solution to step one based on your current work.

step 1: assign an energy cost to fire for every weapon (already done)
step 2: provide a energy production value to every engine based on engine rating
step 3: assign mechs both an energy bar and an energy reserve.

Explanation:

Basically it goes like this. Every engine can supply x energy for weapons. Every weapon costs y energy to fire. The mech has a reserve which allows you to fire all of your weapons in an alpha when the reserve is full. You will have to assign a value based on number of hard points etc. The reserve can be replenished (slowly) by the engine when the energy bar is full. If there's no energy in the reserve and you want to fire more weapons in energy cost than the engine can provide.... then A: the weapon will either fire at diminished strength or B: not fire at all AND c: will incur a heat penalty as the overtaxed power system attempts to deliver the requested energy.

when a 60point alpha is also hit with 15more heat, any 6ML + 2LPL Alpha build will go Red and shut down,
this system doesnt encourage Alphas, as if you Poke and Alpha and over heat your stuck out of cover not moving,
and even with Alpha limited to 30, nothing draws fire like a overheating mech,

sorry cant agree with, linking Energy Draw to Engine will just exasperate the need for a larger engine,
mechs with lower engine rating will be much less desirable,

for instance a ACH would have a much higher Alpha than a KFX or ADR,
even though they are slower and have more Tonnage, making them the ACH even better than them,

And that's on top of speed and agilty. If to make Energy limit dependent on engine rating that it should be a reverse situation (bigger engine - lower cap), to choose mobility or damage is of an essence. But community will not get this and it is counterintuitive and illogical. Thus no linking Energy Draw to Engine.
