Increase JJ's thrust because hoverjetsTM are not fun.

Reduce JJ bar fill rate if you're afraid of poptarts.

Actually, I was considering a thread about tying jumpjets into power-draw. By my mind, firing up and controlling those jets would require some of the systems' available power. Once you do that you can greatly increase the thrusting of JJs and reduce pop tarting (not eliminate it) If you JJ past your power-draw then you start to generate extra heat or the weapons you fire at the top of your arc are going to make you rather hot.

Yes, that would make things slightly more difficult but isn't that what we are looking for in MWO? More challenge?

They could always try gravity too

Removing Hoverjets™ would be a Lostech™ pipedream.

We can't have nice things.

The only issue is that pop-tarting is a ****** (crappy) game mechanic. If they fix JJs then they have to deal with Trampoline Warrior Online.

Have you watched most of the other FPS games, everybody jumping and firing -- its the stupidest thing! These are huge farking machines and jumping around the battlefield like an AK wielding kangaroo is, well, silly.

Gravity fixes that by making them hold at the peak for a time

Juicy targets for any competent shooter.
Also nerfs lights, though...you just can't win.

Don't even think about gravity.
They didn't even manage yet to animate slow movement differently than fast. This way introduced gravity would just stay a number.

If jumping hitreg worked I would agree but it doesn't.

Only way to bring JJ back would be to remove firing in the air with pin point weapons.

More serious post:
I think an ED coupling could be an interesting way. If JJ would use the ED bar, it would effectively nerf poptarting, so why not?
And then buff the JJ themselves in return, in terms of speed and hight and whatever.

It would nerf the hell out of jump brawling. At the same time it would kind of balance this out because normally a jump brawler would kill a non JJ brawler.

It depends.
Imagine FL weapon being the most hungry on this ominous bar, Gauss returning to it's PTS3 version, C/ER/PPCs following the same direction (with maybe other buffs in return, like removing the 90 m lower limit, C-ER splash and less heat for IS-ER).

And then go the way with powerful JJ using the same bar.

I don't think "ED" should stay as it is, measure all weapons by damage, produce additional heat and be interpreted as actual energy consumption. But this is topic for another thread, maybe this one.
But depending on how it will be designed, it could serve for rehabilitating JJs.

I do think jump jets could use a boost and while there is a lot of ways of doing it; I would prefer if jump jets gave more lift among the heavier mech chassis at the expense of slower fuel regeneration.

Example: Class IV Jump generate fuel much more faster than the Class I jump jets.

all thats required to prevent poptarting is the make the reticle keep shaking until the mech touches the ground again

If you're really, really worried about poptarting:

why not simply make it so that the mech cannot fire whilst in the air? or for a set period after using JJ.

The simplest fix, or even just keep the shake for 0.5 seconds after you release the jump key. Hell, I'd even be willing to try being unable to fire while off the ground. Anything to have real jump jets again.

I guess you don't know about the "Highlander Burial".......That's how JJ's should be.

I didn't see anything about jump jet fuel regeneration, is it cooldown? If that's the case then its not nearly at the scale I would want it. The cooldown does not get significantly higher with the weight class.

Here, maybe a topic of mine can explain the situation better. http://mwomercs.com/...harge-capacity/
