Played since launch. Switched to Steam when I got a new computer as it's far better at patching the game.

Leaderboard Season 4 says:

25471 players have played 10 matches or more. (sort by matches played and go to page 1273)

21120 players have played 20 matches or more. (page 1055)

14237 players have played 50 matches or more. (page 711)

Honorable mention goes to Cazcade for these leaderboards stats....well done sir.

558 matches played with a W/L ratio of 2.17 and a K/D ratio of 3.20.

I'm not really looking at the user base that can be inflated by alts anyway. I'm trying to get a rough estimate of all those potential new users how many are left. I also need to subtract from that number vets that switched over to steam like me and others for the simplicity of auto updates. I also think steam counts a launch of the game as a person. Like me I logged in but I haven't played since feb.

Steam users that came in at launch were basically people who didn't know or care about battletech (they would have already been playing if they did). These people would be your game's best critics of the core of the game and if the new user experience was good. A lot of us are here because we love the BT universe and this is all we have. We tolerate things and already have low expectations from the minimally viable approach fed to us for 4 years.

That is also a fair point.
I was only trying to balance out some of the speculations about which client served the majority of the player base. People saying stuff like: "someone calcualtede that Steam is 70% of the playerbase..." without anything to support anything, needs some counter claims. :)

You know it's gonna be another pointless thread about how many players we got, don't you?

Then ask people how many alt accounts they have. Which is, as the game is a long grind and quite expensive if you wanna pay, a pretty bad idea.

Also, on Events, who would log in with alt accounts and lose the benefits of the previous games you've played?

On recent ones, first game played during Event's very first day put me at something like 20k rank. Would you think that many players already use all their alt accounts on the 1st day?
So how much do you think alts can inflate the player base?
Trying to use the data you gather so far, you're around 60% on steam. With 1800 peak, it makes a grand total of 3000 players.

Then you compare that to the Medium Entry in the events with all weightclass and you have at least 20k players for that category only...
So: every players have at least 7 accounts - on average?

There is no way to tell, neither via Steam count nor via speculations based on Forums polls, when forumers are such a tiny fraction of the total playerbase, and not even the most representative.

Let it go man, just let it go, as you'll never know.

EDIT: playing before Steam, always using Steam.

Just trying to subtract the vets from these Steam Numbers. Yeah I know it's not accurate but it is all we have.

In case anybody misinterprets the provided numbers,
it may be useful to clarify Steam Stats:
It provides the number of players playing via Steam at a particular instant,
and here provided are the averages and peaks, thereof.

Totals per day, time per player, or population flow would require more data.

So where in your whole thread do you gather the amount of players stat started with the steam release? Because all i see you asking is whether Vets use the steam version or not.

Bad assumption. I started with Steam, knew about the game before but did not try it due to bad rep. Took the steam launch as an opportunity to test it. Now im here, but is still know or care about MW.

One thing that was very clear to me at the start is that PGI has no real interest in developing the game further (i mean ther are just some simple UI changes that would mare everything so much better). They just pander on an let it run. Development is done, it is as it will ever be (besides switching around balance and creating mechpacks) and i really like the core gameplay. I like it so much that im still here despite all the drawbacks.

Played a lot in 2012 (beta). 2013 I went away but installed MWO again this summer because I saw it on Steam, and been playing actively since then.

I use steam client except for the Test version.
