My Thoughts On Balancing Mwo.

It is my understanding that the point of energy draw is to reduce boating and increase time to kill. These changes listed below would reduce the need for either an Energy Draw or Ghost Heat system

It is my suggestion that a system using all the points below:
1) Weapon Groups: They can no longer group fire. All groups would be force to chain fire with a fixed .5s delay, reducing Pinpoint damage. Alpha Strike would function as normal. Alpha Strike would be held in check by the change listed in #2.
2) Lasers: Introduce a heat penalty system similar to the Tabletop system. The second heat pool has bad things that happen if to dip into it. (Speed/mobility reductions, Ammo explosions, Jam chance, UI glitches, Zoom and vision system failures). These penalties would impact the survivability of any mech suffering from them and would need to be avoided.
3) Missiles: Create Spread and reload consistency across all launchers of the same type. This would prevent boating of light, accurate, fast-firing launchers.
4) Ballistics: Create reload consistency across all weapons. This would make it so heavy weapons are actually better than light weapons at causing pin point damage and reduce the problem of fast firing ballistic boats that make return fire impossible due to impulse on huge numbers of rounds.
5) Ammunition: Force ammunition to be linked in the mechlab to specific weapons with a max of 1 weapon per ton of ammo (except machine guns ammo bins). Significantly Increase reload time if ammo is more than one section away (i.e. ammo in the legs will be slow to access. This would reduce the desire to rely on both ballistics and missile boats as loading a huge amount of ammo will become less desirable. Also it would allow the user to control where each weapon get's its ammo.
6) Light Weapons:" Create a Light Weapon slot type and deploy it as appropriate for each mech. Light weapons would include Machine Guns, Small Lasers, TAG and Flamers. These light weapons could be placed in both their current slot type and the light slot type, but larger weapons cannot be mounted in the Light Weapon Slots.

I think implementing any or all of these changes would help you more than the energy draw system and each would be easier to understand too.

I honestly don't like any of your ideas except the addendum for lasers which is a feature that has already been suggested as a replacement for ED and I am definitely in favor of it.

Idk, I also like the light weapon slot idea.
And I wouldn't straight out dismiss the other ones, apart from the first one.
"Improving" the game by worsening the interface and user comfort is nonsense, IMO.
