How good are they are after latest patch. Interested in two laser boats to replace BJ-1X.

Thanx!

tl;dr: Keep your BlackJack.

Personnaly, I'm a huge Phoenix Hawk fan. I wanted this mech from the beta days, it's one of my Battletech favorites, and I bought the pack with all variants and all heroes, no regrets. I also have a lot of fun with some of these variants (the PHX-3S is fantastic).
But I must be honest: at the moment the Phoenix Hawk is a mediocre mech at best. The lastest patch buffed their arms a little, but it's hardly noticable and won't make it a good mech.

Compared to the BlackJack(-1X), I'd say it's faster and more manoeuvrable, but it has a bigger and more vulnerable profile, as well as much lower weapon mounts. It's not fit for a BJ-1X role.

Agreed. I bought the pack because I loved the Pixie from megamek. They seem to do okay for me. They are very agile with a good engine and full jump jets for most of them (The K does not have jump jets).

It's basically a giant light. The 1K with its hardpoints I think makes it the best variant, despite the lack of jumpjets. An XL 325 with a bunch of ML's, or an XL 355 SPL boat do decently well. I do enjoy the mobility, arm motion, and turning rate over the Blackjack. If you want a good poking 'mech, go for the jack.

I seem to do ok as a harasser. A pair of LPLs on the 3S with MASC & JJs lets you get into position to core lots of mechs out from behind. Sorta makes up for the lack of HPs on it. I imagine the 6 HP on the PHX-2 with the ECM or the 1K with 8 Energy Hard Points is probably a bit more lethal though.

People saying Phoenix Hawk is bad mech don't understand it.

As mentioned previously it's an oversized light, when you use it like that it is actually a very good mech.

I love the PHawk. It's not a brawler. It *blows* for most stand up fights. This despite its oddly tanky characteristics. I've packed a ton of lasers on a 1K and had a lot of fun, but there's nothing there that a lot of mechs don't already do much better. Survivability up close with this thing requires speed and lots of it...and that leaves weapons and heat sinks lacking. It's FUN...but not good.

That said...for sniping it beats anything I've ever used. For me. I just finished an escort round with a PHX-2 scoring 942 damage. Usually I'm more like 4-500 but ye gods...people ignore you because of the reputation and if you downgrade to a 255XL, run 3 ERLL in an arm, and pack the rest with heat sinks you're cracking away 27 points every time someone ignores you...and you still do about 100kph to get into position and maneuver. One jump jet just because. Range and CD modules plus advanced zoom and you're creeping around a corner to light them up from halfway across the map...the arm mounts aren't super high, but they're higher than they look and poke around a corner with ease and keep you covered at the same time.

I run dual ER PPCs on the -1B and it's also fun. Both mechs you spend a lot of time fighting heat, but as long as you're not greedy they're amazing for mediums.

If you want a fast scout it'll also pack in a 140kph engine if you really want to go that route. Run with a bunch of real little guys like Locusts and pounce on a mech...you spread damage and don't worry about dishing it out. The locusts eat them alive while they try to kill you and you've just got too much armor to die easily. I've played sacrificial walking armor for Alpha lance and killed three mechs like that and it was great fun.

They don't get played the way they need to be and they don't get any respect because of it. They're fun, and they're good in the right roles.

hmm...looks like it's a 336dmg average...just biased towards remembering the winning rounds I guess :)

I do very, very well in my 1B, but if you're looking to boat the phawk isn't for you. You can boat the 1K pretty well but as some others have said, the 1K doesn't do anything that another mech can't do better.
