Just looking for good advice for a bare bones pc kit or ideas. I would like something that can run MWO at its max settings and still be able to record the game. i would kind of like to try my hand at making some MWO music videos. thanks in advance. <s>

A Skylake i7 and GTX 1060 or better with 16GB of DDR4-3200 or faster. Either a WD Black 64MB cache 7200RPM HDD or Samsung 850 Evo SSD for storage.

Before anybody says anything otherwise, yes, the i7 is required for max settings and needs to be overclocked or you -will- dip below 60fps at 1080p with particles, environment, and shadows set to 'very high' (which is the max).

With $500 you can buy a potato. You aren't getting anywhere near max settings with that budget unfortunately. Maybe medium settings, but that's about the best you can hope for.

what is your comp now? can you build the new pc in that case? AMDs next cpus dont come out till Feb i think but AMD tends to be less expensive. but right now AMD boards are DDR3 not DDR4 and i think PCIE2 and not 3 although the vid cards are all PCIE3.

what is your existing PC specs?

If the HDD and optical drives are usable.

you can omit getting a HDD and get a SSD instead with the new build.

MWO is so CPU-bound that you -definitely- aren't maxing out particles, environment, and shadows settings with a Skylake i3-based system and getting a smooth 60fps. In other words, you can beg to differ all you want, but I've done enough testing around here to know what is what.

we should be blaming PGI for their ****** implementation of the Cryengine game engine

I build this PC for my customers and they can play Crysis 3, BF1 and GTA5 with 60 fps at high details.

of course nobody should be maxing out details, even med to high is doable and the fps will be above 60 fps

Yes, but OP specifically asked for MWO with maxed-out settings.

There is no debating that most games are not nearly as ridiculously CPU-bound. In fact, the "entry level" VR system recommended right now is a Skylake i5 6400 and GTX 1060, with everything higher than those being considered icing on the cake for a better experience. I even just built my GFs PC with a 6400 and a GTX 1050 Ti since the 1050 and 1050 Ti handle most games at medium-high settings with a smooth 60+ fps so on a budget most games can still be played with decent eye candy. MWO specifically, however, requires a much stronger CPU.

the fact is that my QX6800 and a GTX950 gets me 30+ fps at 1080P med on Crysis 3

in MWO piece of sh** i get only 20+ fps or less with the same settings

I would not go under a gtx 1060 there 60% faster at then a gtx 1050 low power consumption that with a I3 cpu you could play fallout 4, BF 1, gears of war 2 with win 10 all so with a 400 power supply your set

Crysis has a LoS of ~500m; MWO has a LoS of about eight clicks: Your argument is invade ...

6-core, sir. 6-core. There was some other guy that did have the 8-core, though, and he wasn't holding above the 60fps line with everything at very high until he managed to get it to 4.6GhZ (a speed where an AMD equivalent would require a constant supply of dry ice).

I hear Zen is going to be very nice, though.
