I just watched the trailer for the new Blizzard game.... Dauntless. and I just have to know. Who are these people that love giant swords and clubs? It seems so dumb to me. some scrawny little pimple dude with a metal club 2x his size battling some giant bear/eagle/dragon thing. Ugh.. Why don't people develop good games anymore??

Phoenix Labs not Blizzard, but it includes some Blizzard guys.

The trailer does nothing for me.

Oversized weapons makes attack animations easier and less awkward looking.

thats the new fetish in asia, which also the western starts to adapt. It mostly also includes oversized boobs and showing pants. It is just following one of those trends which I also find absolutely stupid, most character couldn't even wield those wepaons. Just go through those typical asia MMO's and you see that stuff left and right. It's just games for the kool kitz

Swords (and clubs) need to cut bullets in half or block them to be feasible in a wartime fictional scenario.

A normal katana can't survive too many hits from a 50 caliber machine gun:

To make things borderline realistic, authors made swords (and clubs) bigger to make it fictionally feasible that they could stand up to direct hits from gun fire.

People always make light of japan's shrinking population and wildly successful abstinence programs.

On the flip side, India's population tripling from the 1950's to the present hasn't done it any favors.

Politicians love population growth and the false ideal that its possible for a nation to tax its way out of deficit and debt, if population's continue to grow.

That's where ideas of japan's population shrinkage being a negative come from.

If big d1cks, b00bs and butt are popular in porn, why can't big swords and clubs be popular in fictional settings.

Same thing really. And one might say, equally as silly.

It's not the abstinence programm it is the lost ability to even properly interact with each other to form couples and have a normal sexuality. it jsut went to an abnormal level.

yes you are right, they are both equally unrealistic. It's ok as long as it stays fictional, and within it's universe. But in Japan it's a problem, there is a unhealthy big amount of peopel out of touch with reality, thats why they do such extremely weird things while they truly have no idea about how the RL counterparts work.
It's not like they are absinent at all, they have their weird little own fictional worlds they live in and practice these things which they simply cannot in RL, because those worlds they grew up with are so wrong that they lack the RL ability to even do it in RL anymore.

Thats why some even started to date their pillow waifus in RL, or even marrying fictional characters in RL.
And I am not speaking of just big boobs and big swords, I am speaking of the massively oversized ones. I have a gaming buddy in the US who's ratehr much a weaboo, and he regulary sends me that real weird stuff.
