So lots of talk/topics about MW5..
But i havnt seen anything about who is funding this new venture, is it going to be crowd funded or is PGI funding the game?.

Your mechpack money is paying for it.

The problem is... will that be enough?

The biggest problem is that when resources goto a different thing (like Clans, or Transverse), MWO suffers.

So far - PGI with revenue they make today. Unknown if they attempt to kickstart it for the remaining funds.

In short... yes, crowdfunded... by us, by playing and paying for MWO.

yea way i figure it everyone who spent more than a hundred bucks on mwo should get a free copy or at least get a huge discount. its such a shame to buy it twice. i was funding this game on promises of ai npcs and stuff like that.

i could forgive this travesty if the mwo gets ported to the ue4 engine at some point, possibly after mw5mercs comes out, possibly even in parallel.

this certainly explains the total lack of progress on mwo. most of their staff has been working on the new engine.

We're funding it, through our MWO purchases. Then we will also need to pay to buy MW5.

So, lucky us, we get to pay twice.

However, there's a potential flaw in their plan...

I think many of us may keep our wallets closed now. I have 180 Mechs. It's been clear all year that MWO has been on the backburner.

Why would I keep buying Mech Packs when they couldn't even release on time the IK, Skill Tree upgrades and Assault new Mode that they said they were holding back til MechCon?!

And for those of you who believe these lazy incompetent shysters will actually get a full standalone game ready in 2018 ... get ready for a new chapter in Gullible's Travels.

You play the title role.

In fairness, we were always going to have to pay twice for single-player content. No PvE add-on for MWO would ever have been free. Just be glad that you're paying a fixed rate for the initial sale, and then hope to god PGI doesn't try to nickle-and-dime you for "content" thereafter.

PGI is self-funding MW5:M. MWO is their only revenue source. Ergo, MWO is funding MW5:M. We fund MWO, thus we are funding MW5:M. ;)

I like the fact that I see the unreal engine attached to this. I'm willing to bet they use the money from the sales for MW5 to port and further fund MWO. Which anything thing that gets CRAPengine3 away from us a great thing.

Unless PGI has some hidden revenue stream or Microsoft sent them a big check ....

Given PGI's glacial pace of development, MW5 must have been in development for at least a year.
Money that was siphoned off MWO development.

It's right at the beginning of this video

I really hope that tech gets ported over to MWO at some point.

this would make sense. you are porting the assets over anyway (assets that are now in 3 games btw), the engine and mech combat is probibly already functioning with the same mechs we already run. you extend mwo with a new engine, continue to sell mech packs, while selling another game on the side and getting royalties from hbs for their mechs. mwo is future proofed, and the support costs for both games are greatly reduced since the share a tech base. its possible they could hold the mechwarrior license in perpetuity, long enough to advance the timeline into the 3060s at least. from a buisness standpoint it makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for the pointer to the Unreal Engine.

I still can't see them porting MWO to Unreal.

They are the slowest developers in the galaxy, and there's no money in it for them to walk away from the codebase they built for MWO.

They're going to continue developing MWO alongside this new project. It's likely a lot of the work they put into MW5: Mercs will go into MWO as well. I'd expect to see working PVE elements like tanks and aircraft show up in MWO long before MW5 is released.
