From the December roadmap

Quote

Faction Play Phase 4.1
Our latest major update to Faction Play releases in December, with significant changes to Factional warfare mechanics, a refocusing of the Faction Play interface, the introduction of a new Tug Of War system for active battles,

Can anyone explain to me what exactly a "Tug of War" system is, and how it's different than what we have now? I've heard the term used like it's supposed to be common knowledge what this system is, but I really don't know how it's supposed to work.

Its a system like the scouting mode, you start at 50/50 and it can swing to both sides. This also means there will be no seperate attack/defense queues anymore just one single one. So no more premades only attacking/puggies only defending.

Well, right now, there are 4 different battle options / mission objectives (in Invasion)

- The cannon and its defenses are active, and I'm attacking it
- The cannon and its defenses are active, and I'm defending it
- The cannon and its defenses are inactive, and I'm attacking
- The cannon and its defenses are inactive, and I'm defending

If there's no attack / defense queue, how do you tell which one of those you'll be doing?

I have this vision of 24 mechs facing a giant gate that swings open. 12 mechs each side, all of them holding one giant rope.

PULL YOU BASTARDDDDDS! Do not let them open that gate! PULLL! Ok your fired A9 for falling down!

Only 63 skills in the proposed new skills tree to get to the highly coveted +2.5% Increased Actuator Strength skill. There is hope for A9 yet. Can't wait to level my mechs! Tug of war is gonna be awesome!

Here is the Tug of War system in concept:

Here is the version shown to us from Mech Con:

From the looks of it, each battle will change the influence on the planet by 2%. If every planet starts at 50% for both sides, and you must reach 80% to take a planet, then you will need a 15 win spread. Comparing that with the old system, it was 13 win spread to take 7 sectors.

To be fair I get the concept of the tug of war.

What I still have yet to hear is PGI moving beyond giant gun, giant gate. Talk about star bases, multiple objectives, just silence.

Seriously CW has become so damn BORING.

their waiting for the pupulation to be able to get matches all around, then theyre going to make it fun. cant improve matches that arent really there now can we?

this is russ logic, i just kinda agree with it. i personally love the chokepoint aspects of the maps, makes you think more about were you are in relation to everyone else, and adds another layer to consider. they can ditch the gens though. i hate those.

Lol, they HAD population to begin with and then it left due to lack of development, most arent coming back till they see PGI develop something more, not just 'muh bukkits'.

The ball is literally in PGI's court.

I don't think the plan to move beyond the concept of assaulting the bases, but of course things could be added.

There should be more sectors per bucket/planet to make sure it is not a Tukayyid event with no room for drops. The other side is to vary the number of sectors that need to be captured based on the planet/sector.

Am I reading/viewing those screenshots correctly, when PGI said buckets it is not just one planet but at least two planets, one for each side?

So say CWolf/Steiner "bucket" some fights will be defense/counter-attack for one side, at other times it will be assault/hold, depending on which side of the tug-of-war the scale is set at?

The screenshots are not clear on that.

It looks like 4 planets each side still, but the bucket itself is Clans vs IS (kinda like Tukayyid with mixed clan teams vs mixed IS teams, but the fights are spread over various planets still)
