The Roughneck. A Blessing Or A Disaster In Disguise.

When I saw Roughneck I wasn't sure where in the battle tech universe I could find it....then I read more into it. PGI made it up. You may think "Oh that's cool". But I disagree. Every single mech that has come out has been from the battle tech universe. sticking strictly to the lore it made MWO what it is. For all the Lore fanatics out there this may come as a low blow. I do not want to trash talk a mech PGI created but when it comes to reasoning and the other options they could have done I dont know.
Let me rephrase that. Im not talking trash or anything like that. Im actually worried....or disappointed.
This will be the first time a fake or made up mech has been introduced into the game. Is it a big deal? Yes I think so
Think about all the hundreds and hundreds of mechs still out there. Many of us have posted suggestions hundreds of times in hope that out favorite mech be brought into the game. I just feel like if they do this once maybe they will continue to keep doing it. More and more and next thing you know half of the mechs you see are not even in the battle tech universe or lore. That would suck. I don't know why this bothers me but it does. There are so many cool and awesome mechs they could of chose to put in the game. But I guess they just wanted something literally new. New and unheard of. I just hope that it was like a once a year thing. That wouldnt be too bad.
If they somehow added this mech to the Lore in a new Mechwarrior book it would work.
I say just stick to adding real mechs to the game. After all there are tons and tons and tons.
I am excited about the Marauder IIC though.
But as for Rough neck. Nah

A medium or light would have been better. Or at least, a heavy that doesn't feel like 4/6 variants are mediocre (one normal variant and the hero are shoulder quadlaser meta builds).

...
Well, not in a TRO yet or anything, but it was canonized at Mechcon so technically it's part of the BT universe now. Honestly, I'm fine with it.. I mean, over the years mechs get created and canonized ... not like we woke up one day and every mech in the TRO's and such instantly existed. I am an old TT fan, but I'm okay with the universe expanding a bit (as long as it's not a chain of like ten new PGI mechs coming up... )
My thoughts, mileage will vary.

You are right there are tons of mechs to still put into mwo, why are so many of you assuming it's all over since the roughneck is coming out?
I'm also vrry lore houndish but I have zero problems with the roughneck coming out. Sure if pgi for some reason just drops pgi mechs from now on id see a cause for being upset, but not with just one. You people really need to stop with the sky is falling act.

I was throwing **** everywhere, ready to create an effigy of PGI's logo to burn down when the Roughneck was announced. But after hearing about the fact that it was basically Alex's pet project, Catalyst confirming it's canon, and Russ assuring us that they aren't going to flood us with PGI-invented mechs, I'm feeling a lot less angry about it. Still not going to touch the thing with a 10 foot pole, but I'm officially taking back my "Burn anyone using one at the stake" stance. It's the least I can do for Alex, considering how much work he's done for Battletech/Mechwarrior.
It doesn't help that I still look at the thing and see the baby of a power loader from Aliens and one of the exo-suits from Avatar.

No sky falling here. PGI could keep doing this and i would never stop playing this game. I just dont want this to be something that happens alot. I don't like the idea of them creating a new mech. Just my opinion. Either way I will alwshs be playing this game.
Haha. Look. It's happening. Do I like it? No. But its not super serious. I didn't realize how many topics were already about this same thing when I made this. Yeah Roughneck is another Heavy. I think it's whenever I buy a mech I like to study the lore and history extensively. It helps me play better and gives me a nerd *****. With this one I won't even get half chub

Just never an image I expected to see in Battletech/Mechwarrior. Weirds me out a bit. Mostly the elbow joints and the extremely thin hips that mess with me, probably.

My washing machine is broken at the moment. Maybe something to do with that.
That said, I love the lore concept and artwork and will probably end up buying it. If my RL job was transposed into the Battletech future, industrial mechs would be a commonplace thing for me. I hope that a big ballistic on the shoulder kinda looks proper just bolted on and really clunky.

I have my reservations about PGI creating a new mech out of thin air with so many popular chassis still being cried out for. However a custom mech would be easier to balance without inciting endless rage from supporters and detractors of the chassis. In addition, it could be used to fill in gaps that canon chassis don't fill. That said, it does open the door for some serious pay to win shenanigans and PGI's balance record is poor at best. And it's even more likely that we won't see new tech get added.
I'm wary of basically everything PGI does at this point but I can see the potential in this.

To be fair, it could either A.Get that fixed when we see the actual model in-game or B.PGI will make fun of this fact with a few unique camo options.

It was granted canon, and probably not after-the-fact like some of the PGI created Mech variants.
Would you still be angry if HBS created a unique Mech for their game? How about if a new TRO contained 10 new industrial/agro-turned-Battle Mechs similar to the Roughneck for a new campaign?

It ruinied everything, and it was obviously LucasFilm's attempt to kill the Star Wars franchise.
