1. If you're in a group, the automatic penalty system should never penalize the group because a single member disconnects (or encounters technical issues and can't connect). If the player is truly inappropriately non-participating, the group will resolve the issue by kicking the player.

Note: If *more than one* group member deliberately disconnects in the same match, I could be convinced that the automatic penalty system should still penalize the group due to the possibility that the whole group, or some large subset of the group, is griefing.

2. If you're in a group, the automatic penalty system should never penalize the group due to team damage and team kills between one group member and another. Again, if it's purely inside the group, the group should have the opportunity to either forgive the issue or deal with it themselves.

If we are able to define thresholds that guarantee that the automatic penalty system only operates on cases of extremely likely griefing (possibly a case where more than one member of the group does more team damage than real damage, which likely indicates the group is non-participating and simply shooting each other), it might still be reasonable for it to operate on groups. However, it should absolutely not operate on groups in cases that are, or might be, genuine accidents purely within the group.

I'm perfectly ok with the automatic penalty system operating on team damage and kills between the group member and a non-group-member teammate. Don't shoot your teammates, folks.

And then we get groups made of suicide cults that blow each other up to mess with people. Always expect the worst when setting up punishment systems like these.

Most wont. You group up with people because they're friends, and friends don't ditch friends just because of ****** internet connections.

No. Internal group damage still hurts the entire team. If you want to horse play, do it in a training room. Don't bring your bullcrap into other people's games.

The penalties are tiny.

We always rag on the guy that triggers it.

This is not a problem that needs to be solved.

These penalties may he annoying, but how long do they take? 2 minutes? just get a drink, a snack or go to the bathroom and you'll be ready to go when you're back.

It's understandable the penalties occuring when someone disconnected is quite a bother, but the team damage/killing penalty should remain. However, as you said, there should be a Forgive system. I've seen this in Red Orchestra 2 and what it did was allowing people to say sorry when they accidentally killed a team member (Which happens really often, mostly by accident) and the killed team member had the choice to forgive or not. If the killer was forgiven, he'd get the amount of points, which he lost for the action, back.

Something like that could be an option.

Although, teamkilling in MWO seems to happen rarely.
Almost as rare as witnessing a headshot, so this idea is kind of an unnecessary luxury.
