Yes, becasue a timer ist setup that consideres an unlegged Atlas reaching the target within a certain amount of time.
If you leg it the Atlas cannot make it in time and the defenders auto-lost.
At least thats my interpretation.

Only if that atlas doesn't have 90 tons of armor on each component.

If they had to make a 300 ton Atlas then they shouldn't have bothered with the game mode. Why create situations that emphasize the flaws of the game?

To be honest, i'm not a big fan of using the Atlas as the escort.

I would've much rather it was a large (multiple vehicles) convoy, which you'd need to protect and depending on how many vehicles survive the mission, you'd get extra loot.

Yeah it's not like governments/corps don't make specialized heavily armored versions of vehicles for moving important people/stuff. oh wait...

I do kinda like Joudos idea of having multiple smaller vehicles being used instead. That said we'll have to see how the mode/game play goes before making an baseless DOA declaration.

If the Atlas is legged there should be a repair bot that comes and fixes it or something, require the Atlas to be stationary for a minute etc

Really thought they would just give the Atlas an HP bar and not let us rip pieces off the mech, it is a bit surprising and yeah if we can leg the Atlas that will be the method of choice since you can hit legs from all angles

I wonder if it will have ECM and increased armor, or be able to fire back, or do anything that would make it more useful than it looks on paper right now.

Well, I would have rather they added a 100 ton APC with a low profile than an Atlas that needs to be completely reworked to be viable. I guess we will find out on patch day, but I'm thinking a lot of VIP.'s are going to miss their flights.

Maybe the atlas is secretly a quad and if you leg it it'll just sprint on the last three, then move normally when two legs are destroyed and discarded.

In all seriousness, though, I'm going to try group dropping with some friends in a bunch of flamer mechs to keep the enemy locked at 90% heat while everyone else focus fires on the atlas. Or, if the atlas does shoot back, overheat that instead and ggez headshot it.

I don't get the reasoning behind giving attackers another chance even after they all die. It there's no attackers and the atlas lives, that should be a defender win.

Should have been some kind of armoured hovercraft instead of an Atlas. No animation required. Just create a hovercraft model, add some hot exhaust effect underneat like Luke Skywalker's landspeeder and Bob's your uncle.

I agree it should be a whole convoy of vehicles that are not super resilient but there should be alot of them. It just seems it would make more sense in a flavor, logic, game play perspective. Like really why is that atlas so important that we are willing to scrap 12 mechs some of which may be atlases to protect it? Why did we put some one who's nearly brain dead in its cockpit? Is it carrying something important? if so cant we just put that on a light and get it through quickly?

Also game play wise this is just going to lead to a defender cuddle box around the atlas and the attackers just poking it to death with PPCs and LRMs from 600+ meters.

The whole game mode just seems half baked to me.

Yea, i dont see this panning out well. Its a HUGE, SLOW target that DOESNT SHOOT BACK?

Gonna be a cake walk to attackers. Just leg the atlas from 500M out and its game over. Should have been a convoy, like in other games or versions of this game, small APC or something with a trailer. Make it half size (or less) of the Destructible bases in Domination and we might have a mode.

ON top of that there should be two! a decoy and a real one, let the enemies figure out which one is which.

You're right. Nobody on the forum guessed that Domination would lead to such predictable and boring matches on most maps. Posted Image

That would actually have been amazing. I would actually be onboard with that. Would have been 1000 times cooler than these Atlas shenanigans.

Heres and idea. Im not sure if it would be any good but add a Dire Wolf aswell. Then the escort fellas would have a bigger chance on winning. Require at least one 100 tonner reaching the dropzone.
